98 260 Legend (New owner)

Hey guys, I want to introduce myself. My name is Eric and I live in Grand Rapids. I bought a 98 260 Legend 454 MPI Bravo 1 right before Labor Day weekend this past summer. We really love the boat. I think we ran got 6 or 7 weekends out on it and I am really impressed with the boat. I upgraded from a 1987 Chaparral 235 XLC and WOW what a difference in ride. We mostly ran around Hardy Dam and Grand Haven.

One thing I need is a new mooring cover. I know there was a shop in Zeeland or Holland that made all the covers for these and I am hoping that you guys know who I should contact for a new form fitted mooring cover.

Other than that, I am really happy with the boat and can’t wait until next summer. We already have plans for Torch Lake and Mullet lake trips and also hope to also head to Put-in-bay.

I have really enjoyed reading the other posts here. It looks like a great forum.

Here's a picture from last summer

Another fine looking Powerquest. You have the same graphic and color combination as me. Put-In-Bay is a blast I run down there every year,
If you never been you have to go once for sure. Come on spring of 08!

Hey Eric,
I don't know if this helps, but I had a 99 260 Powerquest; I purchased a full deck mooring cover off the Iboats.com website for my Powerquest for about $300.00. It is a semi-custom cover; great quality cover with great warranty. Used it all last year during winter storage, and it held up without any fraying or bleeding through. Hope this helps.
By the way, congrats on the Powerquest; its a great boat!! Looks like its in good condition as well.
Good luck,
Mike

Congrats!! Very good looking ride. Gotta love the lighting graphics they never go out of style. I bought a full mooring cover a few years ago from one of the online companies. It's nearly a perfect fit. I use mine all year round to keep the bird crap and sun off the gel. I've got probably another years usage out of it and than it will need to be replaced.

Hey guys, what is the best prop for this boat? I have a 23 Mirage plus on there now and get 59-60 on GPS @ 4700 RPM.

I am not sure what the top RPM is on a 454 MPI.

Thanks,
Eric

Is your motor the 7.4 MPI (310 HP) or the 454 MAG MPI (385 HP)? Max RPM for the 7.4MPI is 4,600 and for the 454 MAG MPI it is 5,000.

It's the std MPI, not the MAG 385HP

4200 to 4600rpm

Sounds like I might be overreving a little bit.

Verify the tach is correct. You can use a shop tach for this. Are you turning 4,700 in the summer with a load or only in optimum conditions? At 4,700 RPM, you are out of the peak powerband of the motor.
