Chicago Boat Show

Just checking to see who's going to the Chicago show?? I plan on leaving the office at 10:00 am Michigan time on Wednesday the 16th to hit it when the gates open. Would be great to meet a few OSO members at the show. And lets not forget they do serve beer!

Knot 4 Me 01-10-2008 08:24 AM

There will be a group of Sunsation/PQ guys there on Saturday.

sommerfliesby 01-10-2008 09:48 AM

Looks like I'll be there Wed evening...5 or so...with a big group from the Chicago Powerboat Club. Check out the booth by Shogren.

I had the chance to "sneak-a-peek" earlier this week while doing a construction project at The Hyatt.
Gotta tell ya, look's like it's gonna be a good show. Seems like a few of the bigger dealers are pulling out all the stops to pick-up sagging sales.

No one cares that a Chaparral guy will be there. :Whatever:

Fast Forward 01-11-2008 04:15 PM

What the heck is a Chaparral. That must be a camper in the lower level???:D

spazboz 01-11-2008 04:25 PM

Buddy had a 2000 Chaparral. Dumped a 350 chevy in it and pushed a stringer out of the side of the hull in 2-4's in Lake Michigan. My friend Tom and I will be at the show Saturday, and will be FULLY prepped to toss a couple cold ones down.

There gonna have to change the name of the Chicago Boat Show to the Chicago Pontoon Boat Show. It really shows the bulk of the direction of consumer spending in the boating world. I was amazed at all the folks shopping the pontoon boats.

As for the Performance boats it was pretty slim pickins. As usual Formula had a good showing as well as Donzi (had the best), Fountain I believe had 3 boats, Baja had the bulk of there line . Cig had a beautiful 38 and Checkmate was there for a change. The most unique was some European design which I don't recall the manufacturer. All in all still a great time and lots of fun. MIA this year Sunsation, Concept, Scout (center consoles) and of course PQ..

Good news for me since I want to look at the tri-toons this year.:p

The Euro design was Fearless...designed by the same people that brought you the Porsche Carrera...you could see the lines of a 911 around the stern. 28 feet with a single 525...claimed 78 mph. It'll also run you a cool $300,000!!!! Kinda makes you wonder what the 44 footer they had a model of w/triple #6s hanging off the back will cost?!

Fast Forward 01-17-2008 09:36 PM

Holly smokes!!!!! I'm sure they'll sell a few dozen at the show at that price..:D They must not be aware of the "R"word they keep talking about in the news.

It is a boat to keep the wife happy since she foots half the bill. Got to get the kid out of the house then daddy gets what he wants. Hence my boat/screen name, "Knot 4 Me". Wife actually named the boat! :D

Amazing how some folks take a runabout and try to turn it into an offshore boat. Mentalpause did that with mine one day at LOTO on the main channel. Fortunately my stringers remained inside the hull!! :cool-smiley-026:

Nothing like running WFO in a 26' open bow from the opening of the Gravois to The Duck in the middle of the day. :boat:

I know I needed a break from that crappy Burghoff beer! For the most part, the show did blow. Had it not been for Mentalpause wanting to look at pontoon boats, we would have been in and out in an hour to an hour and a half.

HMBB 01-21-2008 09:59 AM

agreed! - and $60k pontoon boats? gimme a break......

That Southbay and the Benningtons were my favorites. At least I have it narrowed down to a couple brands now. I actually think they are priced reasonable compared to go fast boats.

But like K4M, that has to be my last year for the Burghoff. Next year I am going to have to take a flask of Captain in and just buy some 20 oz bottles of coke out of the vending machines!

If it wasn't for our annual stop at Cemeno's Pizza on the way home we probably wouldn't even go. All in all, it still beat the crap out of sitting home on a 6 degree day.:p

We will be at Louisville this Saturday. Then the SuperBowl weekend, then St Louis. Then it will be time to start thinking about sping being here!:D
