7.4 MPI to 496 Mag
 

Thinking about re-powering my 260 Legend from the 7.4 MPI to a 496 mag. Has anyone out there made this made this switch on a 260 or comparable boat? If so were you happy with the performance increase and what was the performance increase? How much more performance would be gained by an HO? From what I have been reading depending on the hull the average increase would be about 2-3 mph.

Also going to be installing thru-hull exhaust at the same time as re-power. any input would be appreciated.

Bdubs1, do a search on this topic. There have been a couple of differet threads in the technical section outlining the swap from a 454/502 to a 496.

I'm assuming you have 7.4 MPI non mag?? If you have the mag you'd be better off doing a little freshening and moding on that platform as well as you'd save some $$$ . The mag has all the right components to build off of as opposed to the standard 7.4 which does not.

Yup it is the 7.4 MPI. I bought the boat with the intentions of doing a repower (got a great deal) but I figured I would ask the masses if anyone had been successful with any type of modifications to increase HP. From what I am reading here there is not much that can be done.
