looking to buy an enticer advice
i'm interested in purchasing an Enticer shortly. i never bought a boat before so if you guys could advise me on what to be cautious of when checking out the boat like signs of abuse or neglect. thanks.
|
When I bought mine (now for sale to go larger :D) I wanted to make sure I got the largest motor I could, I ended up with 502 mags, and I wanted external steering and k-planes as well (which i got)
I also wanted the weekender package, which got me shore power, fridge, pressure water and a microwave. It is a buyers market so find out the options you want and then find the boat you want and make your offer. I wanted the boat to be as loaded as possible so I would not have to do as much to it later on and would not have regrets by going cheap on the boat only to want to sell it since i compromised. good luck in your search |
First Time
Patience pays as well as RESEARCH. Since you are a first time buyer a safe boating class as offered buy The United States Power Squadrons or Coast Guard Auxillary would be in your interest. Have someone you trust that knows performance boats help with the process and have a neutral party perform a full inspection. We looked for 8 years to move up from a PQ 27 to a 38. Get insurance quotes before you buy to see if it will fit your budget. When you finally find the one you will love your PQ they are great boats.
Good luck and have fun shopping. |
Like they said! Take your time there are some real good deals out there. Don't let the asking price scare you off as when I was looking at 29's last year guys would drop $5000 to $10,000 on the price.
|
Dont forget you get what your paying for!!!!!!for a nice 290 Enticer expect to pay upper 40s to mid 50s
you must be pretty desperate to drop $10.000.00 |
Let me know where I can get one for $10,000.00 off and I will own 2.
|
So what your saying is that my 26 is worth about 19000 at ten grand off I sure got ripped off I could have got two then for what I paid for mine I should have done more research I could have bought a real big bayliner.
|
Are we crazy
290 enticer is a great boat. if you think your going to steal one for $38000.00 your wrong or it is going to be 1990. bottom line is if your looking to save $10,000.00 then look at boats in your price range. you don't buy a boat to save money!!!
look for a good boat at a good price and you will never go wrong.... hey guy's lets not try to drive down the PQ market on our own forum, lets save that for the other brands GO PQ...... |
All I'll say is your wrong. I looked for 2 years at the 29's and for the most part a nice one would run between $40,000 and $45,000 or higher if your willing to spend the money. But there are deals out there. And I'll agree with PQCrazy don't ever buy a boat based on price you'll only get what you pay for. Let's face it the boating market is just like the housing market is, if your in the market there's never been a better time and save $$$. Have fun looking!

So how is a 29 worth only 10K more?? 40 to 45K will get you a nice mid 90s 290 enticer,if you want a late 90s early 2000 you have to pay more. |
There's a brooder market for the smaller boats now days, especially the larger single engine boats that you don't need to own a 3/4 ton to haul them around. And your correct I was firm on my price. As for the years I was looking at they were from 1995 to 1998 for the most part. Anything newer than a 1999 than you jumped into that upper to low 50's.
I'm by no means saying the 29's don't have value, matter of fact they are one of the best values out there for the quality. Thus is why I was looking to buy one. I'm simply telling the guy there's deals to be had. Take you time and shop. |
I just got tired of listening to people say its a buyers market.
Nobody is giving anything away.If I was selling my boat and someone came by and low balled me because he thought its a buyers market then he would be driving back home without a boat. as far as the brooder market for a single engine,I dont know about that.Fountain stoped making the 24 and the 27 single because they have more of a demand for twin engine boats, and after talking to the guys at PQ they also said theres more of a market for twin engine boats theses days. |
I can beleive that out of the Fountain due to cost.As for PQ I from what I understand the 25 has been the best seller over time. Than again its been around for some time.2nd to that was the enticer which I wish they still made. The only problem with the smaller boats is there not much profit compared to the larger boats.
By the way I talked with Bob at PQ last week and looks like there going to do some interior work for me. |
Mikeroy,
You didn't mention if you were completely new to boating, or if you just have not personally owned one. My advise far above any other would be to take an experienced boater with you while you are looking. They will know things to look for that you may easily overlook. Speeking from experience, dont overlook the trailer. A well cared for trailer can save you from a midsummer disaster! As far as the research goes, I dont think you need to do much. You've already selected an excellent boat, I'd say go with it. Just have to ask yourself what options are important to ya. Camper covers, captains choice, and the weekend package im my opinion make the boat. The other stuff can usually be added for minimal $$ if its even desired. Keep an eye out for stress fractures. PQ's are the one of the best out there for build quality and usually can fight off the stress fractures very well.... however continuous pounding on Lake Michigan and jumping waves will definately deliver fractures no matter what boat your in. Hope this is some help! |

Very nice boat. I can check but I beleive I still have photo's that I took. They really needed to sell as they were getting a new boat but by the looks of it he may have traded it to dealer on something different. I had a deal for a lot less!. Fire me an e-mail and I'll pass the photo's along. |

It took me quite a while to find FF's boat, so my advice would be to take your time. In our search for the larger boat, we have looked at a quite a few, in order to narrow our model/length choices. |

Engine CO 454, Will do if we decide. The way it looks now were going to keep the 26. With one heading to college in the next5 years and two more behind him I need to start watching my pennies a bit more than I have.

Mikeroy,
I know you are looking for a 290. They are great boats. I think you should also consider the 300 Revenge (I just so happen to have one for sale!!). It has a twin step bottom which makes it faster with the same power as the 290. Mine also has 496 MAG HO motor's. These are closed water cooling which help make more consistent horsepower over different temperatures. Easy to winterize! Take a look at the classifieds........ Whatever you do, take the boat you are considering for a good ride. Not just around the harbor. You cannot go wrong with a PowerQuest. Good luck! Dave |
guys have a look at this boat
go to boats.com '97 enticer 502's white-out package. it's listed through temtation yacht sales. $55k sounds a little high so does the 80 mph top speed.
thanks |
My 91 with 502s (390 HP) with just me and a light load of fule (around 1/4) can get 73 on GPS. Ours does have the weekend package. I think 80 would be a bit of a reach with the boat you are looking at.
|
I test drove a couple last year with twin 330's and 68 seemed to be the magic number. The thing I noticed with he twins is that unlike a single the twins get there in a hurry and when you mash the throttles you know it. Very nice boat with good lines.

Enticer
I looked at the 98 at Gordy's last year, the boat has had a hard life. The fiberglass has lots of marks all over. They pulled the engines and replaced the couplers, gimbles etc. It need a ton of work to make it nice. The all white 97 in Harrison twp is nicer but not by much.
|
did you look at the all white '97 in harrison
twp. in person? looked good in the pictures to me just wanted to know more about the boat before i drive 6 hrs. and waste my gas and time. |
Yes I did. If you want give me a call and I'll tell you about it. I live in Bay City. 989-667-4319 ask for Paul.
|
Mike if you are looking at boats consider the 34 vyper, much better size and power that can handle the big lake chop much better than the 29, I am just south of detroit and mine is kept indoors at my home if you are interested in seeing a very nice 34 Vyper with 500 HP's and loaded in 10 + condition.
|
thanks for the advice guys i dont think a boat will be in my future now that gas prices have gotten out of hand, which also is the reason i've been laid off.
|
Mikeroy, sorry to hear. It's going to be a tough year for boaters.
|
1997 Enticer
I am the owner of the all white Enticer. I just wanted to give you guys the history of the boat. It was never reshot, It came from the factory all white. The second owner had black vinal graphics on it for a couple years. I bought the boat with 140 hours and know it has just under 300. The boat needs new cockpit carpet and a new mooring cover. Other than that it is pretty much perfect. The price has been lowered and I will look at offers. I have a kid due in June and need something different.

Opinions on lower hour 1991 Enticers

EDIT* Looks like the website was down for a second. |
Make sure you get all the normal things checked out. The only draw back is that the dash is a little outdated. We have had really good luck with our 91 and really like it!
