280 silencer trimming

Hey folks I need some Powerquest help. I recently purchased an '03 280 silencer with the 496 ho that has a labbed 26 pitch Bravo 1. Sunday was the first ride in the boat and for the year....and it felt geat to be out. The engine would spin consistantly 5100 rpm at w.o.t. I played with the trim forever and I find that the boat likes alot of trim....but it makes a huge rooster tail- looks cool but is it effective? I need some help to point me in the right direction with how to operate this thing.....:cool-smiley-011:

I have a 280, I only trim to half way up the dial, doesnt seem to need any more than that. are you picking up speed by trimming out further than that? I can easily hit 5100 rpm at haly way up the dial. I have a labbed 26P also, with a 1" drive spacer .

You Need To Make Sure Your Trim Limt Is Set To Specs. It Sounds Like You May Be Coming Up To High On Your Trim.

Thanks guys......when I trim up and start with the rooster tail the speeds still pick up watching the speedo....I will be playing around with it again this weekend and I will post my findings. Again thanks for any and all input.

and I forgot Not Right, I dont trim past the mid point on the dial...in fact I dont quite reach the mid point of the dial.

Not Right, do you have any other mods to your boat?? What speeds do you run?

previous owner did a lot tweaking, he saw 70.5 gps but I have only had it to 69.5 (must have been a good current)

502mpi, Gil Exhaust, K&N Filter, 1" Drive spacer, 26P labbed prop, crane roller rockers, Tyler Crocket reprogrammed ECM, hydraulic steering.

I put 16" tabs on it last year and I think I lost a 1-1.5 mph, havent been past 67.7 even with a new motor last year.

Broke my upper gear set so I am down right now.

I throw a decent roost trimming to half the dial, I think he gained a 1-2 mph after the drive spacer was added. The X dimension was too high.

Thanks.....I too throw a good roost and it seems that the boat likes it this way. I played and played with the trim...up/down over and over....and the boat likes to throw roost....and there is no prop cavitation or slip ( as far as I can hear) . Again I thank you guys for the imput.
