Ray,
The motivation came from you! No way was I going to stare at your transom!:p
Now the real reason: I have to change my valve springs the springs I have now have and are causing lifter failure. Sooo I thought I'd better go through both of the top ends. Since I'm doing this I thought I'd send the heads out for port and polish plus a slight compression increase. With the change in the head flow this will also allow me to go to a different cam. Looking for a practical 30 to 40 HP a motor. Hoping for 50 to 60. So I guess I'll still be behind you:rolleyes: I can just barely sqeeze 80mph out of it right now. With above changes I think it will make it a lot easier to hit that number and increase my cruising range.
The other reason for this is to get rid of the junk motor mounts that I have now. They are the rubber mounted adjustable Merc mounts that have no business in my bilge (have replaced three times). One time I was going on plane and had a motor fall over onto the Alt bracket. I will also install a extra bilge pump near the drain plug (the factory pumps are huge and effective but too far forward). The final item on my list is Hydraulic steering to the helm. I have wanted to do this since the day I bought the boat but knew it would be best to wait till the motors were out.
Sooo my minor valve spring change has become a expensive deal but should end up a nice turn key convienence for me.
