Need some PQ imput
I am checking my options and am looking at the following PQ models:
26 legend 27 laser 28 silencer My main questions is regard the hulls. Including differences through the years. What are the differences besides length? I heard something in regard to a stepped hull? Looking for a decent ride and some good speed. I am coming from the a four winns sundowner so I am just doing my research. Thanks |
what's your price range? I had a 1995 26, very safe stable ride, big boat for it's size, not the fastest boat out there. I have a 280 now, great boat, a lot faster than the 26 due to the step, chine walks a little with a cross wake but all in all a great boat. You should be able to get a nice 280 for around 35K, that's the route I would go.

I just picked up a 2000 Powerquest 280 Silencer. It's a great boat, I would definitly take a look at the 280. Mine has a stock 502, it runs 66mph on the GPS. I will be doing some minor upgrades, exhaust, K&N air filter, ect. It may not be the fastest boat but it is a great ride. Plenty of storage, nice cabin. The engin compartment has a ton of room, makes fro working on the motor a breeze.

I have owned the 28, a 34 and now have the 38 All fantastic boats. The key to a PQ is room and ride. They are not the fastest ( usually short 2-4 MPH on similar powered boat) but handle very well and lots of room.
The 28 was first made in 1999 and had a single step. Not sure if it was tweaked later or not. One piece of advice, if you can swing it go for the 34 or 38, the ride is incredible |
All great handling boats! When I shopping a few years ago I had my sites set on a 27. Main reason was as it offers a little larger cockpit than the 26. After looking at several and even making an offer on one I talked with a few guys that had both. Matter of fact at one of the rallies I even talked with a guy with a 28. Everyone I talked with stated that out of all 3 boats the 26 has the best handling and ride . Granted not the fastest . Now I can't tell you this from a personal experience only from others that have owned both. Does that mean I won't buy a 27 or 28? Heck no ! There are so many deals out there, just take your time and buy what you like. We still own a 26 and simply love it! It's be no means fast , but handle well and anyone can drive it (if I'd let them...:D)

It depends on how much money you want to spend, if you're looking for a rocket ship on the water PQ is not your best choice, but for a combination of ride, speed and comfort it's an awesome choice. Don't know much about the 280, but the 27 and 26 are boats I would NOT recommend you purchase and then try to dump a bunch of $$$ into to increase your top end. Now the 300 Revenge is a different story, gonna cost you more money up front, but there are a few guys on here that have 300s and are in the 90's. Gotta consider your tow package too, my 26 is easy to tow and absolutely love it.

love my 34 Vyper,, if you can trailer something that big ,, thats the ticket,, better ride more space ,, just my 2 cents
