New to Powerquest

Well I came home with boat #3 today.... an 01 280 silencer, fairing model with a procharger. I am in need of a new full cover and cocpit cover. Whats the best deal out there? BTW, my wife does not like it. She wanted the 34 Hallett w/innovation 600's i'd been looking at therefore, It may be up for sale SOON. Thx.

specialk 10-30-2009 11:23 PM

Congrats! Share some info:502 or 496? what size procharger? how fast? You should be happy with it. Just dont try to compare it to the 34. I had a cockpit cover made at a trim shop and bought a semi custom fit cover for a 30 foot boat for the full cover. Full cover is ok and does the job but you get what you pay for I guess.

AZ Lineman 10-31-2009 11:13 AM

It has a 454 mag ho. Not sure on the Procharger (Im a roots guy) It does have a huge Aeromotive black fuel pump if that says anything? Speed? Who knows yet. Its not gonna hit the water for a while. Sure has a nice bottom on it. I will thro some pics up soon.

Hey AZ Lineman. I sent a message back to ya on the cover. Let me know if you want it. I know you said you needed one fast. I will ship it to you next week. I am leaving for vacation in 6 days and will be gone for a week.

AZ as in UofA or ASU?

AZ Lineman 11-05-2009 11:33 AM

As in UA, but the Lineman thing is HV Lineman. So has anyone put gas-assist struts on the motor cover? Looking for part #'s if so.

bert4332 11-06-2009 12:10 AM

Sweet!! 1990 U of A grad, if you were from ASU, I was going to direct you to the Bayliner forum.:evilb:

Nice looking boat. You were right on when you said that trailer is not custom made for that boat. Maybe you could get it rebunked???

AZ Lineman 11-15-2009 10:03 PM

I'd like to get some pics of your boat on the trailer to see how the bunks are. I also want to get that cover of yours asap. I shoulda never wasted my time with the other one. I had to send it back. PM me how you want payment, or I'll call you tomorrow to find out. Whatever I can do to get it here soon as possible. Hope you had a good trip. Thx.

I have the same trailer under my 280. At first I was not real impressed with it until I started really looking at it. 2 axle would have been fine but it really tows great. The rear bunks are raised for the step even though it has a single board. I think they made it that way in case you are unloading the boat, the raised bunk would never get caught on the step. The quality is very good. My last PQ was on a PQ trailer (not sure who actually built them back in 93) and it really did not compare to the VIP we have now. The only thing that should be changed is to have the rear bunks extend past the transom.

Go to villagemarina.com and look under pre-owned boats for the 1999 Powerquest 280 Silencer. There are some pics there of my old boat. This is where I traded it at. I will see if I have any better pics at home that show the bunks. It is a heritage trailer.

My 2002 280 has the same trailer seems to work great. what do you not like about it?

Not knocking the trailer at all. Just the fact that unless I am wrong a custom trailer for a step hull boat should accomodate the steps and not have the steps resting on any bunks. The new tri-axle aluminum Manning that Ron built for my twin step 340 Vyper has the bunks made for the steps to rest properly.

AZ Lineman 11-19-2009 10:18 PM

Nice looking ride

Pete280 11-20-2009 08:20 PM

I have a aluminum tandem trailer with standard bunks, I added a 1.5" piece of poly lumber behind the step to the transom, worked great, I hated the fact that the step had so much weight on it with a flat bunk,

no problems at all loading

btw, I have a 2000 280 with a fairing

AZ Lineman 11-20-2009 09:38 PM

If you can, shoot a pic. I'd like to see it.

Pete280 11-21-2009 05:41 AM

I cant post pics here, do you have to be a paying member? give me your email and I'll send you a pic

Look close at your rear braces for the bunks. They are raised higher for the step on the hull. If you try to add a board to add height, it will bee to high. If you are concerned of it harming the bottom, you can probably simply make the bunk into 2 sections front and rear instead of having one front to back.

Well.... I finally got this boat out on the river and did some prop testing. I ended up with a 28P Bravo 1. Runs 77 on gps with 1/2 to 2/3 fuel, 2 peeps and a large cooler full of beer. Ride is impressive.

nards444 05-08-2010 12:38 AM

since powerquest is out of business i dont know if there is factory covers available. But i can tell you this your best bet is to find a local canvas maker. I bought one of those custom fit covers online before and it cost me like 400 bucks, the thing fit like ****. My dad has always done a local canvas maker and use sumbrella material and the covers are great and look new and last forever, most of these are mom and pop shops and take pride in their product and will fix any issues that may come up with it
