1999 Powerquest 270 Lazer
Getting out of the drag racing for the last 17 years and now looking to get back into boating to fill some of my time. Going on the weekend to look at a 1999 Powerquest 270 Lazer with MCM 502 MAG MPI with 500 hours including trailer. Anything I should be looking for ? How many hours is the engine good for? Is this model of Powerquest any good ? Any ideas on the value providing it is in good shape? Thanks

Engine longevity is usually decided by the way the engine was used during those hours and maintenance... if the boat was taken care of then the motor should run good even with 500 hrs, although like any motor may start to get a little tired after a while.
Look in the engine compartment thoroughly for stress cracks and cleanliness, usually someone who takes the time to keep a clean engine bay has taken care of the rest of the boat as well As for value I would expect to pay between 24-28k for it... but that's just a shot in the dark |
I have 580 hour on my well maintained stock 1997 502 mpi's
and they still run great and as good when I got the boat with them at 230 hours. I have heard from a few Merc. Mechanics you can get 1000 plus to even 1500 hours out of them. If they are treated reasonable and maintained. |
Thanks for the replys.
Is the model 270 laser Ok boat to buy? |

Is the model 270 laser Ok boat to buy? Where will you be boating? How much are you looking to spend? Stay away from buying a salt water boat. Less hours would be a better situation but if taken care of, you dont have much to worry about. Look for signs of melted paint from overheating. Make sure oil does not look black from lack of maint. That is about the only things that will hurt a stock 502. |
