34 to 38

PQ owners, looking at the difference between the 34 to the 38, where did the extra 4' get added to?

Yes, I too believe the length is added in the cabin. The head compartment is different and the galley unit is shorter in the 34'. I don't think there is any difference in the cockpit or engine bay.

[QUOTE=performancemary;2208886]I had a 99 Viper and now have a 2001 Avenger. There is far more coockpit and cabin romm in the Avenger over the Viper. The distance between the front of the bench and the back of the bolsters is about 12" to 18"' longer in the Avenger.
The cabin is also about 18" longer in the seating area and the berth is about 4"to 6" longer in the Avenger. Cabin height is also about 2" taller. The head has more room so when you sit on the stool and close the door it doesn't hit your knees.
The motors also have more room, there is another 4" or so between the front of the motors and the back of the bulkhead.

This might help, it was on an old thread.

I saw one the other day and it was all in the swim platform... And then we should reference the great bebate of 34/38 and 38/34 as well.

Interesting...this is now my Avenger bought from performancemary (Jim & Mary). Jim would know...kept the 380 in immaculate condition and went over everything with a 'fine tooth comb'. I think that Jim also had a Revenge...

Cp, cp, cp.......what are we gonna do with you???:grinser010:

Macklin 03-20-2011 07:52 AM

It's surprising the engine compartment in the 380 is only 4" bigger. I thought it was more.

OMG is the 340 engine compartment tight! Had to pay to have the impellors changed in mine because with my bad back I sure wasn't going to chance it. And I remember getting an ear full from my mechanic every time I asked him to do it...

Would be interesting to have the two boats sit side by side for comparisons.

HI PQ guys, thanks for your input. I’m a happy owner of the 257 PQ and just wanting to upsize with an enclosed head. Does any 340Vyper owners have any input on the cockpit size compared to the 26ft PQ. And is the head OK for a human to fit into;-) I need to get on a plane and get into one.

AJ POWERPLAY 03-21-2011 10:47 AM

I've been inside both the vyper and avenger and both are enormous compared to the 26 or even my 29... no comparison, the fit and finish is better along with the design. The head has plenty of room you shouldn't have any issues

Hey BSC,
I had a 340 and am now back into a 260. I think you'll be pleased with the depth and the room in the cockpit and cabin of the 340. The enclosed head was plenty big enough to use and I'm 6'. You're right, you'll have to get into one to see if it's right for you.

Jus Roamn,
Why the down size if I may ask? How did your 340 what year, handle, Power, speed?

No Wake zone for local Spring Lake by Grand Haven, Mi for anything over 26' is a pain in the a**. The 260 fits under the limit . I also was itchin to get into a newer C6 Vette and Softail Rocker Harley. (big fan of all go-fast toys).
The 340 was great though and I do miss it when runnin on a choppy Lake Michigan. It was an '02 w/496HOs. Top speed I saw was 78.2 GPS. It had hydraulic assist and not full hydraulic steering, which you will want .
Who knows, someday I may go bigger again..

bsc 03-23-2011 09:31 AM

Well it sounds like a great trade off, thanks for your input on everything. Can’t wait for summer to get here-) Have a good one.

AJ POWERPLAY 03-23-2011 02:11 PM

THE 288 KID 03-23-2011 05:08 PM

Hey AJFISHER , I saw you in Hanky Pank Coast Guard Saturday and noticed your 290 w/ the Mitchert graghics. I was tied up next to Raizorsedge with his 260. Running from there to Lake Michigan is "only" 35 minutes w/ the 260 compared to over an hour with the 340.
We'll run the coast at least from Holland to Muskegon. Here's a pic Raizorsedge took while we were leaving Hanky.
Sorry about the hijack ..
