$300 dash upgrade

Well, I had a few bucks laying around and decided to put a little work into my very dated interior....
Paid $100 to another OSO member for his factory 1997 guages...
$75 on Craigslist for a Momo Commando steering wheel
$75 for vinyl graphics for the dash and glovebox
$50 to have the vinyl professionally applied and cut

I did the installation myself...

This is what I started out with..

Working on it....

And what I have now....

I still need to pull the Dino hub off (my steering wheel puller didnt have the right size bolts in it!) and install the Momo hub and wheel but the last pic shows you what it will look like...Im also going to remove the VHF radio and replace the other 3 switch covers which are really worn out.

Im pretty happy for such a small investment.

Very nice dude! Id recommend goin with new white switch covers to give it a more modern look... and ditch the old yellow ship to shore haha. Otherwise lookin good, get a pic of the steering wheel once u get the hub on

Looks great!!

PWRQUEST 03-27-2011 12:56 AM

Looks great.......what i would do next is the switch panel and new switches.......But first i would pull that dash apart and paint all of that dark gray white or silver, you could clear it or use a matt clear on it ......That would change the whole look of that boat....

PWRQUEST 03-27-2011 01:01 AM

You wouldnt have to pull the windshield either.......If you can do it yourself it wouldnt be that expensive for materials........

specialk 03-27-2011 03:04 PM

you dont even have to replace the whole switch. you can do just the rocker covers. they are carling switches. super easy to replace and since they are not labeled on the cover, they are easy to find replacments. great lakes skipper has them. Lookin good!

Very nice upgrade, gives me inspiration for the next project (after the $#%# gimbal ring/hinge pin).

Who did the vinyl for you?

I shopped around and the best deal I could find was The Graphics Company in California...$82 which included designing, printing and shipping PLUS additional graphics for my switchplate (I didnt have those installed).

Time to hit the road for Desert Storm!!!

apollard 04-24-2011 10:23 AM

Any plans to do the switch panel? My switches are pretty crapped up and can't be cleaned, so I'll be looking at a redo, but it looks like next year for that project.

Post up those Desrt Storm pics!

Powerquest_Baby!! 04-26-2011 11:14 AM

I replaced all the switchcovers a couple years ago so those all look pretty good. The original ones had some kind of rubber coating on them which were all beat up.

apollard 04-28-2011 01:24 PM

Where did you find the gray switchcovers? The only ones I seem to come up with are white or black.

jeffspowerquest 04-30-2011 01:15 PM

where did u get the powerquest gauges from?...i just bought a powerquest and am haveing trouble finding thing for it

danielthelen 07-22-2025 10:14 AM

I need to do the same thing. Gauges are getting yellow. Been bothering the hell out of me.

danielthelen 07-22-2025 10:59 AM

How did you cut the holes bigger in a dash?
