340 Vyper Question

Hello All,

I am a newb here and haveca question. Looking to purchase a Vyper and read on here and other sites that the hull changed and it is best to get a 2002 or newer vessel. Is this true?

Also, I read that you can tell the updated hull by the distance of the tie downs on the transom. That they are only about an inch from the bottom. Is this true? I have looked at a 2001, 2002 and 2005 and they appear all the same distance from the bottom....all greater than an inch.

For example.

Can someone help me...please?

Best regards.

The hull change was in 2001 I believe so they should all have the upgraded hull... also- anyone looking to get 900-100k for a vyper with 496HO's is hitting the peace pipe pretty hard... even 70 is pushing it in this market, there was an 02 with 500efi's going for that a month ago. Good luck

Thanks, how can I tell for sure it has the new hull?

BTW, just using these as examples.....

i believe the hulls were changed in late 2000 there are some 2000 models out there that have the new hull i wil be selling one on a couple of months for about 60 to 65000 with 502s or 525s havent decided what i will put in yet depends on what i do with the motors going in my 42 fountain keep me in mind around december if you are still looking for one

Late 2001 is when the bottom was changed. They took out some rocker and mad the boat faster and ride better.

Btw: I know of a MINT 2002 Vyper for sale if interested.

could be wrong but I thought the 380s had the hull issues not the 340s

Vyper340 08-26-2011 07:03 AM

Here's a mint 2002 that is one of a kind with every option they made in 2002. Low low hours and perfectly maintained. Now sitting in storage cause owner is layer up with a bum leg and cannot use it.

Have hundreds of pics and the entire build history photographed since it was custom built.

The 380's had issues too, but PQ would tweak the bottom if you complained about it enough. I am 90% sure the bottom changes needed never made it to production. The 340 DID have the bottom changed in production. This change applied to 2002 boats built starting late 8/01.

Nice boat...scared of the salt.

Vyper340 09-08-2011 07:50 AM

Nothing to be scared of. Closed loop cooling and flushed after use.

Vyper340 09-08-2011 07:54 AM

This boat and any salt water boat with fresh water cooling/closed loop will look and perform the same way as a fresh water boat. Especially if it's maintained properly.

This one was dry stored, cleaned and flushed after every use. It looks and is maintained better than most including freshwater boats. If you don't agree I'll give you $500 for the travel.

On the transom under a lid, it was an option.

You should look hard at Vyper 340's boat, you will not find a nicer and we cared for boat. I IS worth your time. Fresh water cooler motors run antifreeze, not salt!
