New Avenger!

Don't know if the picture will appear, but I finally pulled the trigger on an Avenger. Boat is an 01 with 170 hours on the 496's and is in excellent condition with a custom paint job that was done when new. It has always been garage kept and sits on a Manning trailer that looks like new. I have been looking at 38's for a few years and am very excited about next year. I want to thank many of the members here who have answered my questions as I have researched a number of boats. We have it in heated storage and an air conditioner will be installed soon. I have a few maintenance items to complete, but unfortunately, plenty of time to do them!

vista268 12-06-2011 08:15 PM

Yep, I see that. I need to set up an account and will post some pics soon.

vista268 12-06-2011 08:29 PM

Ok, let's try this. We received a few looks for sure!

Ok, this better work!

Nice! It's always good to have a one of a kind paint job too, so you won't see your twin on the water.

Need4SpeedGTCS 12-07-2011 08:32 AM

Congratulations Vista-man:drink: Nice looking 38...I've seen this one advertised...lots of options too I believe!

vista 268 - what are you doing for air? Im in the "same boat" on my 34 and going to install ac in the spring. Im looking at a marine air unit 9,000 but and gonna install in the center section of the cockpit locker. Whats your plan?

PROWRENCH 12-07-2011 06:21 PM

Congrats with sadness from me. I was hoping this one would still be around in the spring. That paint is killer. The search continues...

Thanks all for the kind comments. Here are a few more pics. The upgrades begin this weekend.

I am really fortunate that I have a guy who is a phenomenal boat builder/mechanic. He measured the cubic volume of the boat this week and feels the 8-9000 range is correct for this size area. He is going to pull the boat off the trailer (has a portable jack/bunk system) to make work easier throughout the next few weeks (air install, a couple of gel stress cracks above the rub rail, full buff detail, etc). He ordered the unit, but I am not sure what it is yet. I will let you know, if interested. He is not sure of placement yet either, but I will let you know what we decide. We pulled the center table stand this week to look around below and did see a bit of standing water there. Is this common with the 38's.?It was not enough to pump, and I think it came in the drain at the foot of the cabin entrance (we hosed the cockpit down once we got the boat inside). We may re-plumb that drain too (I don't like it just dumping into the bilge).

Nice boat...what will it run with the HOs?

vista268 12-07-2011 07:58 PM

top speed

My broker said he was able to get it in the solid mid to upper 70's when he commissioned it for us two weeks ago (had not been run in a year or so). BUT, it was very light on fuel, he was by himself and it was about 35 degrees out. So in the real world, I would expect 73 to 75. As a matter of fact, I just found the original "Performance Certificate" that Powerquest put with the shipping package for this boat and they reported the "Average Top Speed" to be certified with radar at 74.6 mph. I will be happy with that.

That's impressive, I wouldn't have thought that fast.

vista268 12-07-2011 08:09 PM

Yeah, I don't know if they (Powerquest) exaggerated or not, but they did put it on a nice certificate that looks like a title! I am looking more for rough water cruising in the 50's range, so top end is not a big deal to me.

Pwraddr 12-07-2011 08:11 PM

Where do you boat?

vista268 12-07-2011 08:25 PM

Basically Lake Michigan or Huron. We typically jump on the boat for a week or so, run the heck out of it and then back on a trailer for 2-3 weeks before our next trip. We like long runs and that is why we think this boat will be perfect. As an example, last summer, we put in at Alpena, Michigan and over the course of 9 days, ran down to Lake Erie and back. Great trip and saw a lot of unique sites. But, we ran by ourselves and were in a single engine cruiser, so decided it was time for twins. We also like Elk Rapids as a starting point and run over to Wisconsin from time to time. Again, twins will be a much improved situation for us.

PWRQWST 12-24-2011 05:02 PM

Great looking boat, it will be perfect for a week long trip. Enjoy it

vista268 12-26-2011 09:55 PM

Thanks PWRQWST. We are looking forward to it. We have it in heated storage now and the air conditioning install starts tomorrow. Not looking forward to cutting the first hole in her!

You know what they say..."measure and measure again".
Congrats on the ride!!

vista268 12-27-2011 06:44 PM

Thanks Verbi. Yep, i agree on the double measuring. Thankfully, I have a guy helping (actually leading the way!) who really knows his stuff.

vista268 01-08-2012 03:09 PM

Update: We received the AC unit so will begin on that install soon. Boat is off the trailer so I took that opportunity to replace all the carpet on the bunks. What I thought would be a simple job turned into a bit more work than anticipated. There are 14 bunks on this trailer and wrapping them is like wrapping x-mas packages which I am not too good at! So, I took my time and am really happy with the results.
The custom gel we ordered to fix the two small stress cracks does not match as well as I would like. My gel guy did perfect work, but the shade is just slightly off. We are sending the gel back to be re-mixed and will spray again. Pics to follow soon.

Wildman1 01-10-2012 07:44 AM

I got the correct gelcoat # at home in Ky. If you need it I can call home and get my son to write it down and give me a call and then post number here. I just ordered a whole gallon this past September.

vista268 01-10-2012 07:50 PM

Thanks Wildman. Let me see what they do for me and then I may need your help!

Shawn D 07-19-2012 10:26 AM

Where did you mount your sea cock for the AC install? do you have any Pics?

vista268 07-20-2012 09:33 PM

Shawn D: If you look in the responses to your post on air just above this, 5 responses in, one of the guys posted a link to my install thread. The picture you seek is in that thread. If you need one with the valve installed, I can get that for you.
