New 280 Silencer

I bought a 1999 280 Silencer yesterday and wanted to ask everyone what they use to tow their silencer with. I am trying to decide if I need a 3/4 ton and if so if I should go diesel. I will be towing through the mountains and noticed the trailer GVRW was 8,000. The dodge 1500 with hemi is rated at 9000 but I wanted to get everyones input on what they are trailering with. I dont want to buy a truck that is too small to pull this thing.

If you have the option of a 3/4 ton buy it. Diesel even better.

My Chevy 1/2 ton tows my 280 fine on flat highways, but if you are towing in a hilly or mountainous area, I'd get a 3/4 ton with a diesel.

I pulled my 280 with my 2010 Dodge Crew Cab 4x4 with the 390hp hemi and there was not a hill I could not climb while accelerating.
Saying that a diesel is nice for pulling in the hills however.

I use an '01 F-250 Power Stroke 7.3. Put it on 70,hit cruise and forget it. Up hill, down hill....70 mph. By the way....my 280 is still for sale in classified . Merry Christmas,PQ boating friends

I pull my 280 with a 03 dodge 2500 cummins. my trailer has no breaks and it pulles it like its not back there. I was definatly impressed. And if you want good fuel economy thats where the diesel is better than the gas. "especially the Cummins." I get 17mpg pulling my 280 on the 3 hr drive to my house boat in dale hollow and half of it is stop and go and big hills. Empty i get 23+ at 80 on the interstate and upper 20s at 55 on highway. even seen 29 once. almost unbeliavable. It wouldnt be possible with out the smarty programmer tho.

We use my 03 dodge 2500 4x4 and the wifes 09 tahoe to pull my 280 sitting on an aluminum trailer with brakes plus its all flat ground here in louisiana. :lolhit:

I pulled the trigger on a 2006 ram 2500 cummins. Nothing like spending 50K to add 8 feet to your boat. As a side note I have a 2000 Wellcraft Excalibur 20 ft open bow with a 350 mag mpi captains call for sale. Let me know if you know anyone interested.
