Verbi: Keeping a boat in the water is hard on it. I kept mine in a covered slip and it was still a lot of work trying to keep it in the type of condition I was happy with. An uncovered slips beats them up pretty good with sun fade, etc. So, to my way of thinking, it is still a ton of work with a boat in a slip.

V69... Have you thought of renting a garage near the ramp for the summer? Tow the boat out in the spring and home again in the fall. This way you can keep the boat at the lake locked up in a garage and not have to tow it back and forth. Garage rentals at my lake are easy to come by for summer rental. Sounds like your biggest issue is not the boat you have but the towing.

East, as far as I know the nearest type of facility is 3 1/2 hours away and is big bucks, something like 5k a summer, but I'm going to look into it though.

We went three seasons with a cruiser in a slip, sold it and bought a truck and pontoon(I know, I know) with the idea of towing it from home, hitting closer lakes than cumberland more often, and earlier and later in the season. Now we're keeping the 'toon in a slip at cumberland all season, and might hit a different lake once a year. As soon as I can get it sold, I'll be looking for something along the lines of your boat to put on a lift at cumberland. Thankfully I was smart enough to convince the wife we needed a diesel one ton to tow the pontoon, so I'll be able to take it to a couple nearby poker runs a year, and bring it home during the winter. |

I would think you would need the same slip for a cruiser as you would your current boat. Lifts are expensive, but a one time cost. Boat would be there ready to go, but you still have the option to trailer it when you want. Best of both worlds.

Where we would want to moor the boat is open slips and no in/out services, simply water, hydro and washroom/ shower facilities and cost is $1600 for the season. Getting into the covered slip scenerio with "lease holder" services including pump outs, bi-weekly boat washes, in/out services etc can run upwards of 10k. The options are limitless I suppose. If I keep Avenger than I think I would want it home to allow me the option of launching at various areas. |
Can be pricey! Last two years I've rented a 60ft pull through (100 yards from the ramp) and and covered slip with a 10K lb lift for $4500 a year, yet no water, electric. Bad thing is that the marina only has 89 octane so you have to pull the boat every two weeks to fill her up. Not renting the slip this year. taking the money for some upgrades on the boat. Wife sure liked the low stress of not having to trailer and launch all the time.
I say keep the boat, yet that's more for my selfish reasons cause I'll still be seeing pics of it on here from time to time:drink: |
I used to put my Topgun in the barn at the marina. They only charged me $150 for the season and it included unlimited ramp useage. It was 50yds from the ramp and inside. The trailer was too, along with my truck all weekend when boat was in the water. It also let me drive don the street to the gas station and get premium fuel, which it required. Pretty sweet deal all the way around. Just a thought.
