280 silencer
what kinda performance can one expect...compared to like fountain baja checkmate eliminator.....thanks in advance
|
Baja with the same power will be slower,Fountain is kinda tricky. I would compare the 280 to a 29 Fountain. The Fountain would probably be faster. They're laid up a little lighter. Personally I like the way the PQ rides over the Fountain. While in my friends Fountain,I can hear the water slapping against the hull, not so in the PQ. Not talking bad about the Fountain, just my .02. Not much expierence with the Eliminator or Checkmate. Bob
I have a 80 mph Silencer in classified |
The 1999 silencer with a procharger in the classifieds is claiming 90 mph. It's a beautiful faring 280 as well!

The 280 is a great boat for its size. It will have more cockpit room than the fountain. It is a faster hull than a 27 baja. My opinion is better quality but it is only an opinion. Not sure on eliminator. The ride on a 280 is also great for its size. You can plow water or stay on top of the waves without feeling out of control depending on how you like to drive. I would not think there is any way the 280 listed will do 90. I have a M1 procharger on mine with a 496 and I will do 75. It is not a hull you will be doing 90mph in. My 2001 can be bought for a lot less than the one listed and has less hours. Turn key on a trailer ready to go. All this cruiser talk with the PQ guys has me thinking...LOL

No, not another one bailing on us!...I'm sure the boys will have room for you on the houseboat...and four hours after leaving the marina and still only a mile away will you guys start reminiscing about the good ole PQ days! or just run out of things to talk about!

Its nice to have a lot of room in a cruiser when hanging out at the dock. I will find a center counsel inflatable to cruise to the beach in. . . .just kidding, i think i am still about 2 boats away from that stage. I would like to get into a 34 or 38.
Anyway, love my 38, plenty of room for just the GF and I, a/c on it works fantastic, etc., etc. After having the 27 for so long I had to jump right to the 38. |
Need4..."four hours ...only a mile away from the launch " Funny stuff.
I believe the 280 is designed to run 71-74 mph. Mine gets to be a hand full sometimes after 75 under certain water conditions. I agree with Specialk, they're not built for 90 ! Bob |
lol, I said the owner "claimed" 90. If you go over to powerquest on FB is were the conversation is. geesh:lolhit:

P.S. also seen the 280 on FB...nice boat but 90 mph; only if I'm towing it. LOL. |

70 does start to look like 90 on the non-gps dash gauge------ after you have drank 18 beers

Now that all the:bsflag: is outa the way. Back to the point of this thread. The PQ kills the baja in speed, ride, luxury, room, and all out pimpness. fountain prob is a little faster but less room as was said by somebody earlier. never met anybody with a eliminator eagle...just daytonas so i have no input there. as for checkmate...nothing but good things to say about them. My good friend has a older 28' convincer and its a nice machine. Slower than my 280. obviously heavier. cockpit is a little smaller but the cuddy kills mine in space, it rides better than my 280 also. I drove his boat last summer at cumberland and went shoping for a 28'ter as soon as i got back. so i guess you could say the quality of a checkmate is the reason why i own a 28' PQ...if that makes since? LOL

The sim is off now Fish! hahaha butt really....:party-smiley-004::drink:
I may be from Kentucky, yet I sense sarcasm from Verbi! I'll let it slide only because I like your boat :ernaehrung004: |

Sorry,"claimed" 90....missed that part.
I've seen those pontoon boat renters at "crab island "in Destin....scarrry ! 14 bodies on board,ALL on the port side save for the "captain". Tlak about fly a hull, doh. Most don't have a clue. |
Just saw proof that a 502 efi Procharged 280 on 7 lbs of boost will do 88mph GPS. Thats kinda close to 90. haha. I would NOT want to be in it even if i was behind the wheel. I dont like the way mine feels at 67.

I didnt see it in person. I saw a video on a buddys phone that used to be a PQ dealer. dont know details on the build or what prop size. The speedo was a digital GPS 88.1 to be exact. What it boiles down to is the guy is trying to sell me a Procharger for my boat. LOL. I must say it was very convincing!!!
|
Don't forget a lot of your speed is coming from your setup... Not just HP. Try a box and fiddle with your prop along with boosting... Should get results u want
|
i have a similar set-up - 496/whipple - running 5psi,in a laser...so far,break-in time....eagle rods,wiseco blower pistons +.030''....should be able to touch 80.....cant wait...
|
Throw the Arneson bravo conversion on there... Then she'd REALLY scream :drink:
|
I guess "TUNING" a boat is more than just about the engine. I like the deal BBLADES has where thay send you props to test so you can get the right combination.
|
There are several important elements in "tuning" a boat which are well beyond just the cubic inches sitting under the hatch.......
