New PQ Owner
Just bought a 1997 Powerquest 380 Avenger last weekend. I am very happy with the boat and most impressed with the ride. It is equipped with 502 Mags and ran 69mph GPS in 4' chop on Lake Michigan. Boat is now home in Omaha, NE. Spent all day Sunday buffing and have the exterior looking new. Sundeck upholstry should be complete this weeka nd ooking forward to enjoying. Have not had time to look at much else other than an initial inspection and test drive. One of my questions is if an on-board charger should be standard with the shorepower package. If, so, where is the charger located. I do not recall seeing one in the engine compartment when I was looking around?
Also considering adding A/C this year, as we spend alot of time in the marina. WHere is the factory system located and how many BTU's? I am sure I will have more questions down the road and am proud to join the other PQ owners here. I fell I got a real good price as well, considering it included a nice trailer, under 450hrs on 502's and only needed buffed and sundeck upholstry. I posted some questions in February when they were asking $60k and brought it home for $39k. |
Great boat! I ll have to look, think it is on port side in engine area.
|
Wow!! $39k for a 38 foot Avenger on a trailer is a great price! Congrats!
|
Jesus Christ... 39k??? That's a Hell of a buy! Post some pics!
|
How do I post a picture from my computer here?
|
Upload the pictures to photobucket and then copy and past the IMG code under the pic and paste it into the comments section. It will be a bunch of letters and numbers but once you click post quick reply the pictures will magically appear
|
If you can't get it email them to me I'll post them for you, [email protected]

Cory,
Congratulations on getting the 38:ernaehrung004: My A/C unit and air intake are under the closet area; remove the fridge for access. The outlet is above the eletrical panel. The circulating pump is under the step in the companionway. I've seen pictures where aftermarket are also installed under the 'U' cushion below the v-berth. |
I have seen where the A/C was located, but what size unit would be needed? 6oooBTU, 9000BTU?
Also, where is the battery charger. I do not recall seeing one, but assume it was included with the shorepower package. |
Also, any tricks to address the loose, rattling and difficult to operate sliding cabin door? Only real complaint I have. Probably won't rattle on thr river we boat, but was annoying on Lake Michigan
|
|
Nice boat, on my Vyper the charger is located on the port side bulkhead in the engine compartment.
|
Nice looking boat. Welcome to the Powerquest family!! My 340 also has the charger mounted on the port side bulkhead in the engine compartment.
|
Nice boat! Did you have a tire blow out on the way home? The spare looks shredded!

Yes, my friend and me both have 1997 avengers and have done a lot of little upgrades/repairs. I have improved my sliding cabin door and my friends almost 100 % from what they were from the factory. I would be willing to share anything I’ve learned with these boats and improvements. P.M. me and we can talk and will send pics. of modifications. John
Were you able to get rid of the rattle? Is an on-board charger standard with the shorepower system? Where is it located? |

Is an on-board charger standard with the shorepower system? Where is it located? I am almost certain the charger would have been standard with factory installed shore power but I will double check. I have an original 1997 Powerquest catalog. Mine is mounted on the wall behind the back seat in the engine compt. |

I am working in Austin, TX until Thursday, May 24th. I will look a little closer then. A charger will likely be my first upgrade. Had one on my last boat standard with the shorepower set-up and loved the peace of mind.

On a twin engine application, am correct in thinking that the Starboard engine/battery provides the DC power to the lighting and cabin accessries and the Port battery is simply for starting the port engine?
|
Get a charles C3000 i beleive. Run the power wire from your AC(electrical panel) back to your charger mounted on your forward engine bulkhead. From there, you can rune charging wires to however many batterys ou need to. THis is how 3 of my Black Thunders have been set up.

Found it, thanks.

Congrats on the new boat Mr. Cory. I see you are from Omaha, what part if you don't mind me asking? I am out in Millard. Look forward to seeing you out on the river.
As for wax and cutting compound, I use Hi-Temp which is out off Industrial and 144th. |
Congrats. Welcome to the group.

As for wax and cutting compound, I use Hi-Temp which is out off Industrial and 144th. Midtown, Morton Meadows. We boat out of Dodge Park Marina. Have had a slip there since 2001. Finally moved to a big covered slip in 2011. |
Next question: On the shorepower panel, there is a switch for the cockpit and cabin lights on the DC side, upper right corner. Shouldn't these work with shorepower plugged in? Where should I begin to look. Also the cockpit lights do not work AC or DC. Reset button in the dash is not tripped and I replaced the bulbs. Other than this, all is good and boat runs great!
