Something weird here. The 290OS had a shallow 21 degree deadrise and were pretty fast. Rode like **** but should run mid to upper 70's with 502's. I'm guessing a 38 Powerquest runs upper 60's on gps with 502 efi's? Sounds like he has some mechanical, prop, or hull issues.

Dry Weight of 29 OL is ~7000 Lbs so fuel, gear and passengers it will be much more. I've noticed the dry weight of these boats is very light...at least on mine.
Could be alot less if it is 454 equiped and this speaks volumes of your demeanor |
According to NADA the 280 silencer's weight is 4,800 lbs vers 29 OL weight is 6,800
Without having experience driving a 280 silencer, I would expect a better ride from the heavier boat. Also the 29 OL has about 2 foot longer hull due to not having a molded swim platform. |
