Cabin door

The cabin door can be removed from the boat with 2 people for repairs without helm/dash removal or disassembly. I replaced the factory delrin slider blocks on the back side of the door with the improved pivoting style from Aluminum 2000 company which also come with bigger screws that I lock tighted in. Also the mounting pads for the glides were loose and had cracked spot welds that I repaired and reinforced. I also reinforced and supported the lower cabin door track that is mounted to the boat so it will never become misaligned or cause the door to jam again. Behind the dash I epoxied a hard foam stop to act as a mid bumper for the door when its secured open for hard running. What you don’t see in these pictures are a nylon pressure block I added to the wood piece that contacts the white frame of the door with some preload that give the door additional support in the bow to stern direction. I did all these modifications to my 97 Avenger and my friends and what a world of difference.

The door comes out into the cockpit for removal. You will need two people, one on the inside of the cabin behind the door and one in the cockpit. You first have to remove the upper and lower door track assy. that are mounted to the boat. You then will need to slide the door closed while pulling it towards you to rotate it out. It is a very tight fit to get out, and I used a lot of tape around the fiberglass areas for protection the door comes close to for removal. I actually thought it went in easier than coming out.
