Anyone Know this boat?
Anyone know boat? What would be a good starting offer?
http://tulsa.craigslist.org/boa/3616912261.html |
In my opinion, if it's in great shape, its actually just a little underpriced, so, don't expect too much wiggle room.... That being said, it has been on the market a while as most people in OK have no idea what a PQ is...
|
If it looks as good in person as it does in the pictures, that is a Great Deal...
|
I am not to farmiliar with the brand myself. I've been looking at Baja 272's and Formula 271's. Any info on how a powerquest would compare would be a big help. Will be used mostly on inland lakes and rivers, with an occasional trip out on lake erie.
What kind of speeds could I expect with a stock 502? How does it handle ruff water? Anything else I need to know? |
Hes pry right on..65mph. It will be bigger in every aspect than the other 2 boats you mentioned. Formula is nice but the PQ will have more room in the cabin and cockpit. It will handle Lake Erie just fine. Graphics and colors aren't outdated..sharp boat. also, with regular service the black 502 will run like a top for 7-800hrs

I had a 28 for 10 years. Very well built, great rough water boat for its size.Expect some chine walking in some conditions.I put over 600 hours on mine, and we went out no matter how rough Lake Erie was..

Thanks for the replies fella's, I appreciate the amount of knowledge there is here on this site and how willing everyone is to help out.
I have been looking for a while now and have been screwed on 2 boats last year that ended up not being what I was told which put me out about $1500 in surveyor fees. Pretty much sucks putting money into something that you never get to put your hands on. Those experiences have made me gunshy, especially since the boat in question is about a 1500 mile round trip for me. SNOPRO, I was just up in your neck of the woods last weekend. My wifes family has a house in Marblehead right next to the Crow's nest. I visited a few of the dealers and marinas while we were up there hoping to find something to my liking with not luck. I am going to give this guy a call today and see what I can get done. Thanks again. |
I stumbled around in the Crow's Nest more than a few times!!I know a lot of people that live in that area.:ernaehrung004:

Powerquest made a fantastic boat. High quality and REALLY built to handle rough water. I would take one any day of the week over a baja. I consider a formula and pq a wash in quality but formula does have the brand name which usually means you will pay more than a similar pq.

280's Are great boats. That one looks sweet with the rare fairing. Try and make it happen!

I have been talking to the guy for a couple weeks (seems like a great guy who really took care of the boat and it shows in the pics) now and we finally settled on a price. I think I am getting a hell of a deal (especially since I am paying less than the asking price) based on the feedback I have got on here only bad thing is my brother is getting married and I have the bachelor party and wedding the next couple weeks so it's going to be a while before I can get my hands on it.
Prowrench: if that is your boat in your avatar I must say that is one goodlooking boat. Where is the best place to get a cover? The one he had was tore up in a storm, so I will need to get a new one, possibly 2 if I want to go with a cockpit and full. Any suggestions on that? |
Congrats on the new rig!!
|
Thanks, I like it too. I'm sure Boatnt will chime in, he had the covers made for my boat (used to be his) and they are top notch quality and fit.

JWay,
Welcome to the club!!!! I've had two PQs, a '93 29 Enticer and my present one a '00 380 Avenger. Solid boats, not the fastest or smoothest, but dependable..both been to Lake Superior/ Isle Royale and back in some ugly water with no problem... the boats held up better than I did. Plus there's a bit more room in these boats to keep the boss happy. There are a few minor annoyances: the hatch rams suck! if it hasn't already been replaced you will want to install a relay and one of these: http://www.hardin-marine.com/c-1212-...actuators.aspx Access to some items such as A/C units and vacuflush tanks will require a sawzall...ouch! These thing aside though the 380 has over 600 hours on the HP 500 EFI's with only regular maintenance and quality oil..I use only Amsoil products in the engines and drives. Enjoy! |
Riggs brothers, in St. Charles IL. Does a great job making customer covers and tops. Ask for Jim Riggs tell him Mark with the 34 Powerquest sent you, he also worked on Excalibur few years back redid the swim platform and the rear seat, looked better the original.

Finnaly got out to OK to pick up the boat last Friday and that is where the nightmare started. My bank was supposed to overnight check to his bank on Thur. night so funds would be posted on Friday so I could leave with the boat. Friday comes we take the boat out and it runs great, get her back on the trailer and he calls his bank to verify funds so I can be on my way. Check was not received yet so I call my bank to verify that it was sent and they tell me that the check will not be picked up until that night at 5:30, so his bank will not get it until Saturday which is still fine. He calls his bank to let them know and they tell him that that is fine but there will not be anyone there to verify that the check was received until Monday. He tells me he will be fine if I just get a tracking number from my bank so he can track the check and then I can be on my way, call my bank back to get tracking number and they tell me they do not have one. So I spend the weekend in OK waiting until Monday for the check to show up, in the meantime I managed to lock myself out of my truck once and my hotel room twice. Monday shows up and we are on the phone with our banks trying to find out where the hell the check is at. Finally get conformation at about 3:00 that the check has been received, so I head on over to where he was storing the boat and get it hooked up, pull out to check all of the light and everything and nothing, none of the lights are working, I figure maybe my plug was bad because they were working 2 days ago, so we go up to autozone and I grab a new plug, still nothing, Go back in a have the guy come out with his tester, he checks my plug and it is getting juice. We dick with it for about an hour tracing wire looking for a short and

And...... Your going to leave us all hanging like that.
Congrats on the new boat, you will like it. |
It looks like it cut out the last part. Finally got on the road only to hit a giant pothole which blew both tires and bent the front rim and axle. Not the Bo at is sitting at a truck repair shop (semis) in Illinois waiting for a new axle, rims, and tires. They told me today it should be finished tomorrow for me to make the 3.5 hour trip back to pick it up.
|
Wow! You will forget all of that stuff and laugh about it after your first ride!
Congrats again!! |
That sucks, I always worry about picking up a trailer/boat that is new to me. But usually I worry about the bearings. On the bright side at least you don't have to worry about putting bearings in that front axle. That should be a relief.

Contact boatnt on here I'm good Friends with him along with many other people on this board he can get you a cover that will fit the boat properly without having to take it anywhere. |
congrats on the new boat

My first mate on our first trip out on the new boat. It was all he could talk about the entire weekend. He will definitely be a future power boater.
