Pipe test today.

Had the pipes tested on the new 380 today. Legal is 87.5db, test is at idle test one 88.2db test two 87.7db. They then average the two and subtract 2db for ambenant noise. So it was a pass bearly. First fine $175, second time is boat impoundment until you arrange for it to be fixed. If you have silent choice you get two tickets disturbing the peace and disordialy conduct for an intential act.

I've never understood that...isn't that what silent choice is for? Michigan is the same way I think.

Get some turn downs. I actually had a sheriff stop and take a look at mine while beached on the St. Croix River. He thought they were a great idea and thanked me for running them. I don't ever get a second look going through the no-wake zones. The turn downs also help quiet the exhaust on plane by directing the sound down to the water.

I am not even going to get started on how mad the whole db thing makes me, but does anyone know specifically how they are supposed to test in Michigan other than just three feet away 90 db in case I ever have to deal with this? I want to be able to fire back if I have the avenue....

Check out the link at CP Performance

Boating Noise Limits Regulations by State

I wonder why they don't pick on bikes, plenty of them exceeding 90db.

Questofpower 05-27-2013 12:34 PM

We said the same thing last night about the bikes, they don't seem to be getting stopped.

I am not sure, he has 500EFI's they are mufflers, I will check them out and let you, it does not have silent choice. They are I am guessing 5" round reduced to 4" at the very tip. I am glad I had my straight pipes closed when I went by ( saw them coming). I have never seen them run a check up there on the river, but it is something I have always thought about. Can't see what is around the next corner, but can hear boats coming and going for miles.

Glad we have no db restrictions. At least that I know about. It would take away from my boating experience.

They cut you a break on the db level, because the limit is 86 here in Wisconsin.

"It is unlawful to operate a vessel that exceeds a noise level of 86 dbA"
