Finally found the infamous "Ringo" cleaner

Got 2 quarts....I'll report findings this weekend if it lives up to the hype. Hoping it works as good as people on here claim.

Stuff to clean the bottom. Search on here, lots of comments. I've tried everything NON acid based and just a pain to get clean.

Mentalpause 06-07-2013 08:23 AM

I've been using Power1One as a non acid bottom cleaner. Just spray it on with a Hudson sprayer and rinse it off with a hose. No rubbing required. Not an issue like acid if you get it on your skin or clothes. Works great on the yellowing you get at LOTO over the season. I'll be interested in how the Ringo works for you.

I use Power 1 now and looking for something better....I'll let you know how Ringo works.

On/Off Gel ... Just wear gloves and be damn careful not to get it on your clothes... No replacement for acid! Lol

I have good luck with this stuff

Slimy Grimy, boat bottom hull cleaner remove slime, grime, stain, grease, rust & mud from RVs, Windshields, cars and homes

mysweetone 06-08-2013 08:17 AM

x2 on the Slimy Grimy

Padraig 06-08-2013 05:25 PM

x3

I have used Slimey Grimey for at least 13 years! Good stuff.

Pwraddr 06-08-2013 09:39 PM

Ok, so the verdict is Power 1 is FAR superior. I liked power 1 but just wanted to try something else non acid based.

AJ POWERPLAY 06-08-2013 10:39 PM

No harm on trailer finish?

Hi AJ,

No the power 1 is biodegradable too. I did the cleaning on a rack fixture though, easier than on the trailer.

I took 3 cleaners, Simple Green, Power 1, and Ringo. I then sectioned off 3 areas on the hull bottom and applied each product. The Power 1 was a runaway. Following was Ringo and to be honest, Simple Green didn't do much of anything.

I did some research on Slimy Grimy and appears MANY people like it. Seems though it is an acid based cleaner and I don't want that. I could be wrong, so if some one knows please correct me.

Thanks for reporting your findings Keith. I have always used Power One. Tried others but came back.

BillR 06-09-2013 08:10 AM

Ringo has to sit on the surface for a bit. I Ringo the entire bottom, and by the time I m finished, I rinse where I started and it is like new clean.

Bill, admittedly, I didn't do it that way. I applied Ringo on a damp rag. Like applying wax, I rubbed it on the hull in a 2'x2' area. I then rinsed off.

I'll try your method next time and report back again.

Should the hull be wet or dry when applying??

no the simple green wont do anything on the outside,,I was not sure what you were trying to clean...

I always had good luck with the Works bathtub cleaner,,buy it at the dollar store and i pour it in a spray bottle and by the time im done spraying the bottom of the boat its white again,,

Mentalpause 06-09-2013 09:09 AM

Lots of folks that boat on Clinton here in central IL use the Works. It works great for the stains left by the local pond. Knot tried Power 1 once on his hull but it didn't take out the stains. But when we use Power 1 on the stains caused by a season in LOTO on my boat they disappear within a couple seconds after you spray it on the bottom. No rubbing required. I just rinse it off with a hose. Takes about 10-15 minutes to do the bottom at the end of the season. I have also used it on rust stains from well water that form under a faucet or on concrete - takes years of rust stain out in seconds.

all good, I had some so figured I'd give it a go. Thanks for the tip regarding the Works, I'll look into that.

I'm just looking for something cheap, non acid based and effective....may e they don't all fit together.

Pwraddr 06-09-2013 09:24 AM

The thing that is imperative on Power 1 is the surface needs to be completely dry to work...if not, poor results.

I hear you...the Works is about $1.50 a bottle and about 4 bottles will do the job,,works great on the exhaust tips as well..
I figured if its safe enough to spray in the bathtub and rinse down the drain its good enough for me to use on the boat..

snopro13 06-09-2013 07:17 PM

Ringo works great, but it is hard to find. Power One is also great, spray on and hose off. The best part is the hull feels the same after using either one of these. It still feels like the boat has just been waxed.

Yup, Power One did nothing on my yellowed hull other than make the yellow sag a bit. Works was the only thing that touched it and even then I had to scrub a bit after applying it. To be fair that was as bad as I have seen my hull get. Had I cleaned the bottom sooner Power One may have worked. I should try it again as soon as I see the hull begin to yellow. Which on Clinton Lake is after about 2 outings!!

AJ POWERPLAY 06-10-2013 12:17 PM

Damn guys, i had some yellow on my 290 after about a month in the slip... But it came off easy with thr on/off... What kind of mud are you boating in ?! Lol

You did it ALL wrong with the RINGO. BillR is right. Wipe it on without any scrubbing in adequate portion to cover any area of stain. Let sit 10-15 minutes or as you get done with the entire hull and rinse off.

We have all tried everything on the market and my 30+ years of boating found RINGO to be the far and away winner with least amount of effort or damage. PERIOD. The key is finding some...

I've had great luck with Iron Out mixed with warm/hot water... It is acid though, but works great on my white cat.........
