What will be your next boat?

If you sold your PQ today which would be your next boat?

Mine would be something with staggard engines. I REALLY have a problem working on my twinns in the PQ. Moste likely a Fountain oe a Cigarrette. Thats just me what about you?

Not brand specific, BUT, something BIGGER with twins, more cabin room to do overnighting with my family. AC, Vacuflush toilet.

Right now it is a buyers market if you want to take on more expenses

Another Classic "DONZI" had a sixteen, but looking to restore an 18 or 22, mind you i would take a 38ZX in a heart beat!!!:D :D :D

Towel Boy, the classics are nice.....had one 15 years ago.....but I think Ray was talking REAL offshore performance boats.

Ray, interesting timing on your post. BillR just posed this question at a recent dinner with other HRPA members. I am awful happy with my new PQ although I hear you on the engine compartment issue. This is her first season so I have not had many problems yet, and most of those have been warranty.

I would say that the next boat must have a nicer cabin (and more head room) than the PQ which limits my choices unless we go lots bigger. How about an 80' Sunseeker with triple gazillion horsepower deisels with surface drives that will run into the 60's. No s**t, there is one at the golf and yacht club right here in town.

Now, that's dreamin'. ;)

Next boat will be (IS) a 41 sea ray express with twin cummins 450hp diesels. Traded in the 02, 38 PQ. Was a great boat, but
2 kids with a 3rd on the way.

Now next boat will probably be a 28 Sunsation with a big single to hammer around in.

Dave, Did I see your PQ at Colony Marine yesterday? I drove buy oogling and wondering if they picked up the line. If so did you trade it in or are they brokering it for you.

Damn..... another crusier wake to go over. Just kidding hope your new rig works well for you.

Hmmm.... well, if the rumors of PQ making a competitor to Formula's 370/400 Supersports are true, I'd take a hard look at them. Been seriously reassessing how we boat - love to go fast, but can't take more than 1 other couple with us. Like our friends 38 Searay, but can't stand taking 3 or 4 hours to get to Put-In-Bay.

Formula's Supersports are the best of both worlds, but they want a LOT of cabbage. More competition should = less $$, but we'll see. Right now, it seems that Formula has the fast cruiser market to themselves...

wms 08-12-2002 01:11 PM

Hey, what about the Fountain cruisers?! Sweeeet, but major cabbage for those as well, I am sure. I would definitely consider a fast sport cruiser as our next boat. And, I would have to say that Formula is probably my favorite in that style. Is PQ really going to build one in that size range?

dockrocker 08-13-2002 10:12 AM

The rumors are that PQ is thinking about / working on a big brother to the 320 SC. It makes sense in terms of market share - there are a lot more cruisers sold than performance boats.

As for the Fountains, I think most of them still had 8'6" beams with a tall deck to increase headroom (I'm thinking abou their 38') That narrow of a beam really limits the cruisablity of the boat, IMO. Now the new 48' is a different beast, but I don't see anyone dropping a half-million plus in my lap anytime soon! :)

Plus, I just find Fountains to be ugly - I really don't like their styling, interior or exterior. And the left hand throttles would drive me nuts (I have nightmares about someone heading into the cabin and grabbing the throttle/gearshift as a hand hold! )
