Trim Lines Cover Removal
 

I'm preparing my Boat Projects List and one thing I am already in process of doing is replacing all the trim tab lines from the reservoir to the cylinders. in order to get the full line removed where it enters the hull, I need to remove the plates that bolt to the hull so I can remove all of the tube and seal them 100%. I pulled as much of the line out as I could, but small pieces are stuck in this cover plate so I have to pull it off. Has anybody removed these before, I'm sure it will take some force but don't want to do any damage, any advice would help.

you might have to run a drill bit in the hole to clean it up.
once clean get some resin and Qtip or pipe cleaner and coat the holes so it seals them from any water,run the new lines through and apply 4200 sealer on the outside and re install the caps

That sounds easy and will do it exactly like you mention. I still need to get the caps off. I believe there are four screw for each cap. How do you remove the caps. I remember seeing some white adhesive so they are probably glued on as well. I need to remove these first and think that I should be careful so not to break them or rip off part of the fiberglass or gel coat when I take them off.

Let me know what you think. Have you ever taken these pieces ?

I had the same set up on my 290. I would get some De-Bond which is used for breaking down adhesive bonds like 5200 or 4200 and follow the directions before trying to remove the trim line clamshell cover from the transom. I've used that stuff and it definitely helps.

I replaced the lines on both my 257 and 280. The original lines on all PQ's are getting pretty brittle. It really is a pretty easy process. While I had the lines off the 280, I took the cylinders and clamshells off and painted them with rustoleum spray paint. What a face lift!!! I taped off and hand painted the mounting brackets with the matching rustoleum paint. Everything came apart easy on both boats. I ordered the line and all new stainless steel hose clamps directly from insta trim. They are a great (but pricy) company to work with. They knew exactly how much line I needed when I told them the boat model as they still have all their files from PQ. I also added the trim sensor gauge as the 280 didn't have it. Another easy, but messy, job. The cylinders are just cheap plastic and there really isn't much to them. I used the 3M 5200 to seal stuff back up. Works great on two boats and counting...
