May be making an upgrade, who's run one, what power did it have and overall opinion on it. Looking at one with rebuilt 454 mags mpi, built to stock configuration - balanced and blueprinted engine...asking 49k but is willing to move. Any ideas what it should be worth, new trailer as well. Thx

Whoa fellas slow down on the responses :-)) ......what's do you guys think an 01 29 with balanced and blue printed mags is worth with 0 hrs... Also how would a 29 scarab compare in ride and build mojo

Think you should look hard at my Vyper....

AJ had a 290 with 7.4's and he sold it a couple years ago for $45k I think, but with Mitcher T paint and a big JL system. Definitely buy Keith's 34 over a 290 if you can swing it.

Had a 29 for many years before upgrading to my 38. The 29 is a very solid boat that can handle rough water, you would not want anything smaller than 454's. The Powerquest will ride much better than most other models. I do run in a 300 Revenge with 496's and is very fast, there is a possibility that this boat will be coming up for sale soon...but will bring top dollar as it is in pristine shape.

Is Keith's vyper listed on the oso?

Also meant to add dealer is willing to trade and giving me 20k for my legend

I have had my 290 for almost 10 years now, its held up well and no plans to change unless a lotto ticket hits. 49k seems high to me (10k), even with new mills..... With mags I would expect solid 75+ gps numbers. As far as scarab, no personal experience. From what i recall when looking at them they are a much smaller 29 boat. Also a lighter boat and usually powered accordingly. Ride I suspect is quite different. Good Luck!

I had a 2000 290, 454mpi's (310hp each)
Its best was 69 but usually 67 or so, I had Bblades labbed 25p mirage props. Great overall boat, if there is one thing to bring it down its the top speed but other than that they really do everything well. Very larhe cabin amd cockpit for a 29 and the ride is very nice. The last 6" has what powerquest called a 'shingle' which is basically hook built into the hull to keep the nose down, which in turn gives you that nice ride. I personally would say 454mags or bigger is a must with this boat, and hydraulic steering would definitely be a big selling point... mine didnt have it and it would have really benefited from it. These boats dont require much if any tab, so k-planes arent a big deal but if it has them them even better. I dont think 49k is in the ballpark, not even on the high end. $39k max I would say with fresh mags but it should at least have hydro steering for that price. I had a 3k stereo system and full mitcher T paint job along with about every piece of anadized red hardware from livorsi you could get on mine. If I could only have the money back... could pay for a quarter of my whipple/SCX upgrade on the 33!! :D |
