Switching to electric fuel pump

Seeking some advice. I have a 96 Powerquest 270 I'm switching from 454 MPI/MAG to a carbureted motor approx. in the 500hp range. Builder says to run electric fuel pump with about a 140 flow rate at 7psi. I've heard the factory fuel lines in a 270 need to be changed? Any input from people who have made the switch from the mechanical? Also where did you take your "+" lead to the pump from?

I kept the mechanical when switching a 96 502MPI to carburetor. Mechanicals are much more dependable than any electrical pump.

I agree with you and would prefer not switch also but the builder is giving me a warranty on the motor so gotta do as he says :/
