No trim tabs on boat ?????

Hello, everyone.

I saw a 2000 237 Striker forsale today. The boat only has 50hrs on it with a 454 bravo one, 310 horse. The asking price is $36,900. The boat looks nice and all, but it does not have trim-tabs on the boat. Isn't that odds ? Why would some one order a boat with no trim tabs. Would I need a trim tabs for a boat that size and that engine ? It doesn't have carpet where the cockpit at also. Do you think that is a good price ?

Thank you for the info,

Mattt.

I had a 23ft Cobalt with a 330hp 454 and no trim tabs and it handled fine.

I had a 260 without trim tabs and I never put my carpet in the last 2 years unless it was real cold out.

No TABS on my 260, Boat Just does not need them. Always will pop on plane with 2, 3, or 4 onboard.

I would think you could almost buy a brand new one for that. Keep looking!

You should not need trim tabs on a 23' boat. My 232 ran fine without 'em. I rarely used them on my 272.

Thanks, every one for the reply.

I thought the price was high for that year. No trim tabs, so is it just for looks ? What purpose does it surve ?

Thanks again, every one.

My 260 didn't have them, but I added a set of Bennett 12x16 dual ram sport tabs with Stainless Marine mechanical indicators. The boat didn't need them as far as getting on plane or handling. But I do like having them to counter the port side lean and in rough water I put the tabs down a little and keep the drive parallel with the bottom. I prefer this to tucking the drive under to keep the bow down in rough water. I boat in mostly rough stuff. Also at wide open throttle the boat used too chine walk a little bit, it doesn't do it at all now. The cost was $750 and a weekend of my time to put it all on. I think it was worth it. You should be able to get a 260 with a trailer for that price.

If you do any boating on rough water trim tabs are very nice to have. You will not want to do without them once you have used them. I see a lot of PQs sold without tabs. I think it is just to keep the cost down but, in my opinion they are not a luxury item. If you see a boat you want to buy that does not have tabs, use that as a bargaining tool to get a better price. You can always put them on later if you like everything else about the boat.
