Need Prop Advise
 

MY '94 290 ENTICER IS RUNNING A TOP END AT 76 MPH. WITH 502 MAG'S AND 23" MIRAGE PROPS AT 4900 RPM'S. IF I WENT TO LARGER PROPS COULD I GET A FASTER TOP END? I WOULD REALLY LOVE TO GET HER UP TO 80 MPH. ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Something doesn't add up here. I assume are running 1.5 gears and with 23" props at 4900 rpm, your maximum speed would be 71 mpg with 0% prop slip. You should have somewhere in the 10% - 20% prop slippage range. If you have 1.36 gears, your max spped would be 78 mph with 0% prop slippage. It sounds like you have one of them BAJA or Checkmate speedos in your boat.:D

It looks like you are propped about right if you are running 4900.

If you want to gain 2-3 mph have the props labbed. You will turn them about 5200 rpm( that is OK with the MAG's)

THANKS FOR THE INFO GUYS :) . MY TACH'S SHOW 4900 RPM AND THE SPEEDO ON MY GPS SHOWS 75.8 MPH. WOULD GOING TO BIGGER PROPS MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

If your rev limiters are 5000 - 5100, I would try a pair of 25 labs. You should really do your comparison with a GPS and same day weather condition.

25 pitch props will be alot slower out of the hole, working the 23 pitch props will pickup the speed maintaing the holeshot ,reduce any cavation and midrage accleration will be improved.
