Hatch actuator 380 avenger

So I’m on my third hatch actuator in my boat. Always seems that the gears are grinding. It’s a 1998. The angle of the actuator I think is the cause of these problems (stock location). Anyone had this problem or have a fix that they have done?? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Check that the gas assist shocks are still good. there is a stark difference on the load to the ram without them. The ram might not be heavy duty enough for the full weight of the hatch. It is extremely heavy. Ask me how I know haha.

Does anyone know what pound struts they are? I can measure it out but cannot read the numbers to see what pound they are. Thanks

Stock ones were 100 lbs force each!!!. SpringLift was the manufacture (I be leave attwood makes them or something. PN: SL-34-100 If you want those enter that PN into google. Im sure there available

New ones I installed were 60 lbs. 100 just seemed like a ton of force for the couple screws on the mounting bracket. I got mine off Ebay. I believe these are the ones I'm using.

I pulled one side off and hatch became a bit heavier but manageable, I pulled the last one off and it darn near folded me in half and shoved my azz to the bottom of the bilge! It was all i could do to recover and get it lifted back up. They make a huge difference to the actuator!

Now, if I could keep the actuator from constantly loosening the screws that affix that thin bulkhead to the seat back I'd be happy. There really needs to be a knee or bracket that stiffens up that fiberglass to the center stringer. That hatch puts some serious force on those mounts.

Me either!! Had a guy off FB take some photos of his since mine were missing when I bought the PQ. That is how I got the PN. So pretty much much any normal strut will work with a 20" extended stroke.

Say Gimmy Fuel. Dose your rear bench still have the hinge(s) on for it? Mine are missing (presumably so it is easier to work on the generator). So my seat flops around. If you have them, can you post or send me photos so I can try and find a set.

I can do that although I won't have a chance to see my boat for another couple weeks yet. Darn adulting and family obligations!

It is a sort of double hinge system attached to front of seat with a 2-3" piece of flat aluminum between the piano hinges. To open it, you pull the front edge of seat up and it rocks forward sliding the rear edge from under the back rest, then flips vertical for access. Maybe get a hold of Neil Wallace (New owner of PQ) and he can get you a factory hinge.
