Prop selection...

PQ guys,
a good friend of mine has purchased a 1995(or 6) 257 Powerquest. The boat is powered by a Bulldog and I believe the boat was supplied with a Mirage 3 blade. He has brought this boat home to our elevation in Utah from Texas and will need to re-prop for hp losses.
Question is, what seems to be the best performing prop for this boat? Pitch will be a trial and error process but he can at least start with the right type of prop ;)

Thanks in advance,
Dave

My 260 liked the Mirage Plus the best. The 4 blades provided too much stern lift. This was with stock power and with non-stock power.

Mine came with 28p Bravo's and I got 4950 RPM regularly at 79 MPH GPS speedo. I then put on some 30P Merc labbed Bravo's and got all the way to rev limiter at 5250 while just getting 80 mph GPS.

BTW, Vyper340 gets a regular 80.5-81 mph GPS with standard, non-labbed 28p Bravo's (the boat, year, and power is exactly the same as mine except he has the windscreen and I have the windshield). I wish I could get that speed and be as fast as Vyper340!!! I guess I'll have to settle for being the slower PQ in our group...

Bill, NOBODY will EVER be as fast as the legendary Vype340.......huh Vype?.....:D

Vyper340 03-28-2003 02:24 PM

Bill - congrats on coming to grips with the reality of the situation.

Reck - still waiting for you to join the 70+ club... so don't knock it till you try it. LOL!:)

BillR 03-29-2003 06:22 AM

Whoa!!!!
Vyper340 typed in the above message from my computer while I was away. I guess that is the ONLY way his boat will be faster than mine.

That IS pretty funny though!!! LOL!!!

Macklin 03-29-2003 06:25 AM

 :D

Vyper340 03-29-2003 11:43 AM

Sure... retract it just when we all thought that you were finally making a breakthrough and confronting the brutal truth. :)

Reckless32 03-29-2003 11:57 AM

You guys are killin' me...:D

Macklin 03-29-2003 12:24 PM

I am absolutely LMFAO!! (Bill and I were typing at the same time this morning so I did not see his reply.)

Good one Vype :D

My dentist friend (Sea Ray 260) saw Mac and Bill out the last 3 weekends, either on the water or in a rack. He did not mention a 3rd PQ340!
True story too, he has his boat at MShores...
The speed difference is the fairing for sure, and Daves short hair is aerodynamic! LOL

Dave, when does you baby come home anyway. Nancy and I look forward to seeing all three of you guys on the water soon.
Bryan

Yes I broke the golden rule and posted here.

Tuesday and I can't wait! I've had some nice painted graphics added and few other tweaks... I'm home this week and plan on getting out and waking the horses.

Macklin 03-30-2003 07:36 AM

NordicHeat, sorry but it looks like we have turned your thread into an HRPA chit chat session. :D

BillR 03-30-2003 09:34 AM

Vyper340 looks happy since his boat is coming home.

Macklin 03-30-2003 10:36 AM

OMG that's funny!! She/he does have a likeness.....

Dave, that was for your comment about being able to boat all week. Here I am locked inside the house on this dreary f*****g day!! Enjoy it bubba!!

Reckless32 03-30-2003 11:52 AM

Gee, if it weren't for the pig-tails I'd say that was an uncanny likeness of the Vype.....;)

BillR 03-31-2003 06:43 AM

well,

OK, I *did* add the wig to Vyper340's pic.

LMAO

Vyper340 03-31-2003 09:58 AM

LMFAO!!!

BUT still not as good... keep trying!
