Well It's gone!
My 1998 380 Just left for the factory, Its going in for some warranty work. The typical modifications that were done to these years hulls. Hopefully I will have as good of results as others had.
I guess Jan was too picky with his boat and it backed me up a little ;) |
Cool. Hopefully theyre doing work in house? Did they say how much improvement they thought they could achieve? Mine had a 3/16th hook in the back just when I put a framing square on it. This was after it had been blueprinted by their outside source! After Mark W. got done w/ it I put a 4' level and it was perfect and was almost mirror like.
|
Ray, your collection of boats is running thin ;)...380 at PQ and the 47 at Rods. Time to clean the shop I guess. :)
|
Jmackin, Mark W is going to do the work himself he says 3 weeks. To them this is a handling issue not a speed one or so they say. The did not promise anything. They just agreed to make it like the others they did.
HP500. I still have the Eliminator Left!! |
PQ called on monday and it's finished!
They called today to say they had some open water and wanted my permission to test the boat and see the difference. I said OK as long as they winterize it agian. I hope it all goes well. I am waiting to here from them on the results. Prior to the hull changes with the stock 30" and b1 1.50 drives I could only get 76 MPH. (previously I had seen 83 with imco drives 1.36 and 28p labbed props) I think its great for them to rapair my 1998 380 under warranty even though in the meantime the ownership had changed. Thanks PQ. |
Good for you, Ive been there and I think you will be happy.
|
Raypanic,
Hope everything turns out for the better. It is great that they are fixing the boat under warranty. Jack is making good decisions. Way to go PQ. Jan |
Any results?
|
Results from Factory 86MPH (gps) 5200RPM Bravo drives x stock 30". "still accellerating ran out of room because of ice" :D :D :D :D :D
I still have 200 or so rpm from the whipple setup, They also said it handles just like a new one out of the mold. I can't wait! |
That's great Ray! Bet you can't wait for some warm weather!!
|
10 mph???from what mods we need to know?????
|
Some of it has got to be form the frigid air and dense water (borderline freezing)....Just a consideration.
|
The bottom had hooks in it and the strakes were cut. These are similar mods that were done to all the 98's and some 99's Mark Winia did the work and the testing. These were to help with handling and speed.
They are delivering it to my shop in a few hours. I will then be able to check it out. I am sure the cool air helps some too but it should be a mid 80's boat for sure if what they say is true. I imagine I could eek 90 out of it with different lowers and labbed props but not worth the $$'s on this boat. I should be able to surprise a few people out ther with my "SUV" |
WOW, hats off to PQ for performing way more than any other manufacture would to satisfy a customer.
Ray, tell them to motor over to the West side of the lake, there is plenty of open water :). You must have received a lot of our ice on Sunday with all the big winds :D. See ya |
I just talked to Rod @ performance marine. He is fixing my oil leak (Pull engine) and cooling problems. He water tested it and hit 87.5 and was bangin' the rev limiters. I have 32" B1's on it (not 30's) he is going to try some 34's and test again.
I may try some 5 blades when I get it back. |
Re: Well It's gone!
I finally got it back from Rod @ Performance Marine a couple of days ago. It took way longer than expected. I can finally get it in the water next week and do some testing of my own.
I know many of you know and have delt with Rod but after what I just went through I would suggest someone else. I dont want to flame him but things have changed severely in his company and not for the better. I hope he gets things back together soon. But in the mean time if you need work done and you are concidering him think twice and beware. |
Re: Well It's gone!
Ray,
I'm glad you own more than one boat :D When you get the chance give me a call @419-466-3920. I have found a fix for an issue I had on my boat and would like to save you the trouble of going through what I have for the last 4 years! Scott |

Can you publish this information or is it proprietary. I have a similar situation and would also like to know. |

Re: Well It's gone!
Any of you heard of bottom problems with the 34' Viper. My 1999 has major prop slip and I can't figure out why. I had the 30' props labbed by merc and no change . The boat is all stock. Motors are new HP500'S turning 5050 RPM's and I can only get 75 mph.
Ideas? |
Re: Well It's gone!
I have not heard of any with the 340's Certainly could be though. CHECK FOR HOOKS IN THE BOTTOM! Where is it slipping? out of the hole? Overall ect... I can see the boat maybee doing 80 on a good day low fuel ect. You are not far off.

Re: Well It's gone!
I just blew my port engine (78 hours)! I put about two hours on it last weekend had about two on it today and now it's toast. I had my wife driving it and we caught up with about 4 or 5 other offshores and we switched drivers. Now I am driving it at about 50 or so and some of the guys want to play so I pushed the throttles foward and I knew something was wrong, it just did not go seemed sluggish ect. I backed down and I noticed Ihad to push the throttle significantly further on that engine to maintain the same RPM as the starboard. I started for home and stopped a few times to listen to it I thought maybe a spark plug wire or something as it was missing some. I got back to my canal and it was missing more. I heard a squeel and I shut it off immediatly. now it wont crank...........................I think I lost a valve

Re: Well It's gone!
Scott,
You mentioned a problem with the head ventilation. I had a 340 and now a 380 that both seem to pressurize the holding tank. The 380 seems like it back fills the head on some occasions (nasty) and I checked the vent which seems OK. What did you do to fix it? |
Re: Well It's gone!
Scott added another vent line to the tank and t-ed it in to the existing vent. He has more details but he got at it through the speaker cut out and throttle/shifter opening
|
Re: Well It's gone!
Scott
Tell me more about the venting issue with your waste tank. I also pick up some nasty smells, more common when the waste tank is near full. Is it possible for something to be leaking if the tank gets pressurized? Smell doesn't come from the head area but builds in the helm area when the canvas is up. |
Re: Well It's gone!
The holding tank and macerator are behind the coaming panel on the driver side. To get the panel off you go through the speaker opening and loosen the nuts.
|
Re: Well It's gone!
Hi guys just reading through and thought I would ask if any of you know the boat called "lots of tail". a 1999 380 with 525sc's. I am looking to buy this and close this weekend but I am courious of any problems that it might have. Please let me know and if you want please call me at (309)275-3436. Thanks Rich.

Re: Well It's gone!
My question on the Vac-U-Flush head systems...............how long does your tank (if a VHT-12) hold the vacuum before the pump comes back on?
|
Re: Well It's gone!
I've just started having problems with mine loosing vacuum this year. Third summer. The pump will kick in about every 30 minutes or so. Bill had this problem during the first summer. He went in through the coaming panel and found a loose fitting. I have not taken the time to do that yet.
|
Re: Well It's gone!
what the heck is the coaming panel? I have been into mine 2 different ways.....removing the board in the storage compartment and also removing the speaker and then removing the vinyl cover....still a ***** to get to either way. I replaced the duck-bill and the pipe (OEM) which goes in to the tank (I broke the first one) trying to tightened the fitting with the duckbill in it to much and the seal in the toilet, I still can only get 14 - 18 minutes before the pump kicks on. The factory said they use shaving cream to find leaks. I asked them about pressurizing the area and using bubbles, like in checking refrigeration systems. They never said either way
