volvo vs. mercury

I am looking for a 380 avenger. I would like to know what has better resale the volvo or the mercury what is anybody input on this subject???

Curious question. I was not aware that PQ ever put volvos in the 380.

If so, I would stick with Merc.

I dont know how many but they had one @2000 miami boat show. Tried to get a ride on it but it kept breaking down.

Always the nice thing with PQ, a choice. Try that with some of the "other" mfg's. I think the Inovations were great motors and could hold their own with the Blue engines. Unfortunately, if it isn't black on the back, resale will suffer/ My 02.

I agree with Kentz, Had a friend with Twin OMC drives and it took him 3 years to unload. And I mean unload at a bid loss. I'd stay with the tried and true Merc.

guys,
I was wondering if the dpx 500 series held up it value against the Mercury 500 efi and what the resale would be in a few years. I've heard that vovlo had some things going on early in 2000-2001 with their drives. Any body hear anything on that. Thanks for your input.

gemmi4,

I am by no means an expert on the Volvo setup, but when I bought my 95 PQ in 2000 I had some upgrades done the following spring of 2001 by Dave Lamer of Advantage Marine Service in Zeeland, MI. Dave used to work for PQ until he opened his own rigging and service shop. You might want to call him and get his thoughts.
It so happened to be that there was a 2000 or 2001 brand new PQ 38 Avenger that Powerquest was paying Dave to switch the engines and drives to Mercrusier. I think the motors were 500's but not a 100% sure. Regardless, the customer had blown two outdrives and the boat was less than 6 months old. The customer was extremely upset so PQ agreed to pay for the engine and drive swap.
Like everyone else has advised you can't go wrong with Mercrusier, they've been around forever. I personally wouldn't buy anything else. Hope you find the boat you are looking for.
