lost soul
HELLO TO EVERYONE. JUST FOUND THIS SITE, AND FEEL THAT I MAY HAVE FOUND A HOME. I HAVE OWNED A 1990 POWERPLAY BOAT UP HERE IN THE NORTH EAST FOR 7 YEARS. I LOVE MY BOAT, AND TRY VERY HARD TO MAKE IT LOOK BETTER EACH YEAR THAN THE YEAR BEFORE, AS IM SURE YOU ALL DO AS WELL. THE TOUGHEST PART OF OWNING THIS BOAT IS EXPLAINING ITS ORIGINS, I.E. NAME CHANGE TO POWERQUEST BOATS , TO PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ITS NICE TO SEE SOMETHING WRITTEN HERE ABOUT THESE FINE BOATS BY PEOPLE WHO KNOW THEM, AND TO HAVE A FORUM TO DISCUSS VARIOUS SUBJECTS CONCERNING THESE BOATS. KEEP IT UP....
|
Welcome aboard. You might want to turn off the caps lock though, so we don't think you're yelling at us:):) Where in the northeast are you from?
|
Sorry, about that. Just being lazy about using capitals where needed. Didn't know caps meant yelling. Golly Gee, guess I gotta get used to this here new fangled form of communicating. I must be getting old. anyways, I'm from western Mass. Spend time on the local river, as well as down the shore , towards Block Island and such.

Whatcha mean by the name change to powerquest? they are 2 different boats...
|
No, early-mid 80's the company was powerplay. Look closely at one and you'll see the similarites to the 23-26' PQ models. Not to be confused with powerplay out of Florida.
|
Very well informed. It was 2 companies owning the same name. After legal crap aside, one changed name to powerquest. Though my boat says Powerplay on the side,it was built by the company now known as powerquest.
|
Rich,
Can you post a pic of your boat? |
There is a Powerplay (Powerquest) down here in our dry store. It looks almost like new. They hold up quite well.

Hey speaking of Power Play we are having one shown at the Grand Rapids show this weekend. We have a little historical information area and we have a 185 Powerplay there. Just like you guys have said this one too looks like brand new.
If you get there check it out. Some of the guys from Powerquest will be there. However I will be out at the Fort Washington Show, so anybody out there. I will look forward to seeing you. Mandi |

The name change from Power Play to PQ was during 1991. Dan Weinstein the owner of Powerplay Boats in Fla. made a legal move on the name. Even though he didn't start his business till approx. 1987 and Power Play Boats of Holland Mi started in 1983 he claimed infringement. As I remember, and feel free to correct my memory , Weinstein was racing a Cobra (which later became the Powerplay 33) and it was named Powerplay. Since his boat was named Powerplay, and later on his company was named Powerplay, even though it was started 4 years after Power Play Boats, he went for it. Word was Power Play decided to change to PQ as the only ones benefiting were the Lawyers. If you look close many of the 91 models have a small PQ logo on the upper right stern while the Power Play logo is still on the sides. And, if you see a Power Play with the "script" logo you know its old. |
