Strongest Drive??

My motor dynoed at 1150 hp with 1100 ft lb's of torque from 3500 up. I currently have an IMCO SC. Is this the strongest drive out there without a tranny?

Re: Strongest Drive??

WOW, that is a loaded question. It is so hard to recommend a drive without a transmission for that HP. I have heard the good and bad. It really has a lot to do with your boat/driving.../throttling skills. I would simply recommend that you baby what ever drive you have or end up with!

Re: Strongest Drive??

I do not think there is any outdrive that can handle that Hp except the obvious expensive choices with tansmissions.

I paid about 12K for the drive. I don't know the price of the stage II setup.

I spoke to a rep at the miami for the Konrads, 9k drive, they claim they could handle 1100 hp, but I think they only warrant 850hp. Suppose to be coming out with a shiftable drive soon too.
wahts the max on the xr drive and price?

An XR runs 7K-8K. An XR Sportmaster is 9K-10K. I blew up an XR in a few hours without beating on it. They are not meant for more than 600HP. You can baby them and get away with close to 800HP, but after that it's all over. I have an XR Sportmaster 1.5 up for sale ($6500) since it doesn’t do me any good with 1000+HP.

Re: Strongest Drive??

If i had the money, I guess the dry sumps 6's would have been the best choice if I was going to run 1100 hp - allowing for a trannie. "Hot BOat" this month had a nice article on history of drives and whats avaiable...though they didnt mention a few for some reason (hands werent greased I guess).

zt260, did they stand by the drive when it broke?

Re: Strongest Drive??

Mercury doesn’t stand behind anything drive related, unless it's with stock power.

Bmax warrantees their drive to 850HP.
For me he warrantees it to 1000HP due to the boat weight (4500Ibs)
