Plastic or Solid Hub?
Hi,
I have a 24' Superboat that I am repowering with a 415HP/502MPI. Should I switch to a solid hub or is the plastic one still OK? Thanks, |
Re: Plastic or Solid Hub?
The plastic one should be fine. It will also offer some protection if you should strike something. If you go over 500 hp then soild is the only choice.

Re: Plastic or Solid Hub?
Yes, youu are on the borderline with 415HP if you can run the nylon insert then your risk of drive damage will be markedly reduced. If you find that you are spinning the Nylon hubs then go to the stailness sleeve.

Re: Plastic or Solid Hub?
If anyone has a need for plastic/nylon hubs for a Bravo, let me know and I'll mail them to you. I've got two of them sitting in my basement that I'll never use!

Very cool of you Craig!

I have both so I'll try the plastic first...
Thanks! |
Re: Plastic or Solid Hub?
We have always recommended solid above 400hp. This doesn't mean the delrin hub won't work.
Do make sure you have an extra in the boat. The torque alone may spin the hub without hitting anything over time. Also torque the prop nut to 55 ft/lbs. and recheck it after your first time out. Slightly loose will cause it to spin the hub sooner. |
Re: Plastic or Solid Hub?
I have 500hp's in a 33 outlaw and both of my plastic inserts are cracked. Where can you just buy the plastic hubs only? Can mirage plus props be converted to solid hubs? Should I spend the money on solid hubs instead? Who performs this work?

Re: Plastic or Solid Hub?
We have all the parts you need in stock. Call us if we can help.
The plastic is a composite known as delrin. There are different ones. Make sure you get the 2 piece version. The stainless sleeves convert the Mirage Plus to solid hub. There are also 2 different ones. Make sure you get the correct part #. |
