I recently spun a bearing in my 24 Daytona so I bought my girl a spring present. She was getting tired of the 475hp 454 anyway so I got her a 600 hp 540ci. Now she's saying she needs a nice new matching prop$$$

I'm interested in what experience people have with the Hydromotive PVx on CAT's. I would think a 25 daytona would be a good comparison. If anyone has experience I'm courious how the boat liked the additional stern lift. How much increase in mid range...?

I have been spinning a 26" Bravo 1. 76mph at 5300 with a lite load.

Any suggestions on where to start with the new power?

I would think a 28" bravo prop at 5600rpm for about 86mph.

Where do you want ot run the new motor rpm wise?

I think I will be looking to prop for about 5400-5500 RPM under a lite load. I am mainly looking for a good cruise speed at 3600-4000 RPM. This is why i am asking about a 5-blade.

Anyone out there with 5-blade experience on a similiar size CAT?

We just returned a Maximus 5BL To a customer in MI. She runs a 28 Daytona with Crocket power. She picked up 8 mph on the top over the 4BL. Also large gains in the mid range.

Single engine cats in the mid to upper 20ft ranges have unique needs due to the drive in the tunnel turbulence.

5BL props tend to work excellent with higher X's on these.

Your boat is a great candidate for the P5X. Based on your performance numbers you should not have to change the drive height and the prop will run great right out of the box. We have several customers with 24 Daytonas running the P5X and all of them picked up speed compared to the Bravo 1's they were running previously. In each instance the P5X's were stock. The customers described boats reaction to the prop as a "boat lift" type of prop. They said it seemed to lift the entire boat up without any noticeable increase in stern lift. Cruise speed and overall driveability improved as well.

There are also 25 Daytonas out there running over 130 with P5's on them. As long as the motor turns A LOT of rpm with a small pitch prop these boats will run.

Thanks for your reply. I hope you meant to say that I would not have to change the drive height. My drive is an IMCO extreem SC with a 2" shorty. Prop C/L looks to be 3-3.5" below the center sponson.

I am interested in your trial program. What size prop would you suggest I try? My 540ci dynoed at 575 hp at 5400rpm and 650ft/lb at 3700rpm. My old numbers with the bravo 1 are above.

Sorry for the mistake, you should not have to change your drive height, I have edited my previous post.
A 28 P5X should put you close to 5400. I have a 29 P5X test prop you can try, if you like. Your rpm may be a little low but still close enough to get a feel for the prop and it's speed potential.
