B# combo

Hi all, I have a question...

Formula F252BR 454 MPI-310

with the 28's it feel's a little sluggish and turns 4400, maybe..

with the 26's it bumps the rev limiter moderately @ 4700, yet peppier..

I am thinking on leaving the front 26 on, and changing the back to my 28 for a 26-28 combo... anybody ever done this ??

thanx, Jim

I assume you are talking about a B III drive. That is a real quick way to find out how much a new drive costs. There is no clutch or slippage of any kind between the two prop shaft, using diffrent pitch props will put uneven stress on them and eventually something will break inside.

A concern for sure.. i'm just thinking here..

my sources tell me the 28" set, are actually a 29" forward and 27" rear prop due to the different diameter of the two in the first place, 28" average number.... 26's are 25" and 27" pitch for a set number of 26" overall. The rear prop is a smaller diameter on both set's anyways. The load balances out due to diameter differential between pitch's.

The pitch stays the same while the diameters changes.

There are some new Bravo 3 propellers coming available through Mercury Racing. They will have a different geometry and a 4blade front prop. Should be available quite soon.
