P5X Prop question?
 

Last year I ran a 32pitch mercury labbed bravo 4blade on my American Offshore. I spun this prop @ 5700-5800rpm. I just had my motor freshened up and done up a little bit more. I am thinking about trying a P5X and was wondering approx. what pitch to start with to turn around 6200rpm. I have a 28 p5x to try, but was just trying to see if anyone else has switched from the bravo to the P5 and what the rpm differences were?

You will need approximately a 27P or 28P Hydro P5-X. I would try to baseline the propeller and call me with your results. From there we can certainly get you dialed in. There are many people that have conveted from the Bravo I propelers to the Hydro P5-X. The results are almost always positive. They will give you improved hole shot, faster planning, better cruise speeds and great acceleration over that of the Bravo I propeller.

I have a bravo 1 30 & a 29 hydro p5x. Both run about the same top end RPM. The Bravo gave me a better MPH top end but my boat would not stay on plane if speed was 30mph or below.

Going from labbed bravo 31s on a powerquest 38 the 28 p5x's delivered 3mph at the top end at the same rpm (approx 5300). Hope that helps your decision.

What motors are you running? I have a 380 with 32 labbed props and are not happy with them. Had them tweaked with now difference in results. p5x's and Maxima's have been mentiond. The P5x with no change and the Max's with cutting down and labbing.

HP500EFI with ITS and IMCO 2" shorter lowers and a half inch spacer on the right. It is an 02 hull. Ran SOTW this year and last. I ran at the same approx speed (65 avg) in almost identical conditions and got noticeably better fuel economy.
