Props are such a Mystery
I've been reading, "googling", asking about the props for my SR357 and not really making much progess but did pull-off an experiment this weekend that provided some interesting data.
Boat is a Formula SR357 with MarinePower efi 454's. THe drives are TRS's that are on 33 1/2 centers and the prop shafts are 9 1/2 inches below the bottom. Props turn out. I've been running 21P Mirages and could only spin 4000RPM at WOT. I had a pai or TRS Cleavers and couldnt get any definitive info about them so I lashed them on the boat this weekend. Couple of obervations-- Picked up 200-300 RPM at WOT Picked up a few MPH at typicle cruise RPM (3000) Needed mor throttle to get opn plane Props would cavitate on hard acceleration and on hard turns I think the boat was riding lower in stern because with the trim planes down I had great rooster tails on both sides. TRS manual suggested 14 3/4 221P cleavers or 15" 19P mirage "like" props. (Since manual is from 1986 U said Mirage like) Food for thought at least-- |
Re: Props are such a Mystery
Actually your stern was riding higher and this is why you had a rooster tail, had a more difficult time getting on plane and picked up some RPM.
