Verado Prop Question/Help

Have a new 32 Glasstream CC with 275 Verados. Boat has the new double step hull.
Running 4Blade Bravos with 24 Pitch. Hitting anywhere from 6250-6400 RPM depending on load.Depending on load speed is 64-68 1/2 mph.
It appears on somedays the speed only increases about 2 mph between 5500 and 6400 rpm.
Any tricks for these props for speed and what about type of 3 blades?
Boat and engines are at 6800# and then 1308 in fuel for a gross weight of 8108#.

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

Your slip is varying between 15-18%. A little high. Increases as the rpm comes up.

Yes there are many things that can be done to the props. First you need to make sure other things are in order.

How deep are the engines? How are you rotating them, in or out?

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

Ok...the drives are turning out...the prop shafts are about 4" above the keel.
Mercury suggested pitching the 24's to 25 pitch.
Any opinions?
I saw where a triple Fountain fish boat had 26 Lab finish and [email protected]@5000..73-75@6250rpm
If I pitched to 25 then labbed or would the 26 Lab be an option?
Any ideas bbladesprops or throttleup?

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

Your motors are mounted pretty high. I would explore this prior to any prop work, props are always last. I think dropping the motors down may decrease your slip.

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

Agreed. Are you sure the prop shaft center line is indeed 4" above the lowest part of the hull?

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

After re-measuring..with out drives of the "in stops" so that they are almost perfectly verticle they shafts appear to be in line with a point relative to the drain plug or or between 2-2 1/2 in. up from very bottom of keel.

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

Still seem to be a little high. Is that where Glasstream suggests to set them?

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

Glasstream is very proud of where their X-deminsion is at on all their boats
After reading all the other topics in this section and hearing about Mercury stated pitches not really being as stated( 24's are 22-23*) ..I'm figuring this may be where the problem is..and like I mentioned before of pitching up then labbing could that put us where we need to be?

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

Also we seem to be learning how to dock all over again compared to all of our experience with IB/OBs.
These Verados are closer together..so not as responsive or not enough P-Factor..orif they are mounted too high i guess that would make docking more difficult? Not enough bite in the water..enough prop in water.
They act like IB/OB that are turning inward.

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

The closeness is what I figured and said above but I also figured a high-X would also limit it.
Getting ready to go play with it some more

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

We ran it with 3 people and about 65% fuel and we got 66mph @61-6200rp and a good quartering sea...then ran it with 85% fuel and one person and got 67mph.

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

Hmm are your gas tanks located towards the rear of the boat or under the Centor Console? If they are on the rear then the more gas u add the faster the boat will run because it will make you trim out less and use the thrust of the props to go forward. The weight of the gas is making you trim less therfore you have more efficiency.

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

Okey..guys new test today..and you can compare to the above posts/test results.
Replaced 24 pitch Bravo 4 blades with 26 pitch bravo 4 blades today.
Top end RPM dropped from 6250-6400 to 5700 -6000. Saw 6000 only twice.
Top speed was 65-66 1/2 mph@ 5700-6000( and cruise speeds were:
46@4000
58-59@5000
63@5500
So I'm thinking a 26Bravo 4blade labbed would get me back up in the RPM range of 6200 0r a little more and then the top speed should increase and hopefully the cruise speeds would remain the same or slightly better.
Whatta ya think?
Still trying for the 70-72mph target
Or should I turn a stock Bravo 4blade down to a 25*
Or pitch the 24 Bravo 4blades up to a 25*

Sorry this slipped through the cracks. I've been out on personal business for a few days last week.

The 26's worked will help but I think I'd like to try another option in 4bl prop technology.

If you would consider discussing it, please give us a call at your convenience.

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

Brett,

Thanks for sending the 25P Mercury Revolution 4 blades. You really know your stuff. Here is the test summary. Chuck and I were able to run two sets of props today. We tested 24P Bravo Ones and the 25 with 70% fuel and 1 ft chop. I will also list the 26P Bravo performance again to compare. The results are as follows:

24P Bravo Ones
@4000 43.5
@5000 53.3
@5500 59
@WOT (6400) 67.5

26P Bravo Ones
@4000 46
@5000 58.5
@5500 63
@WOT (5900) 66

25P Revolution 4
@4000 43.5
@5000 58
@5500 64.5
@WOT (6050) 70.5

The boat ran 70.5 exactly like you predicted. We only saw 6050 RPM max at that speed. We have 400 more RPM to play with. My concern is that we really didn’t increase at 4000rpm with the 25P over the 24P. I would like to get 46-47 @ 4000. The boat also chin walked at 68.5-70MPH(we had to trim it a bunch). It doesn’t do it typically at 65 or 66 w/o quartering seas. Could this be the props or the drives, or both? Can we lab them and get it to 6350?

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

One more thing. When I ran the boat at WOT and no trim. The boat pulled 5700 and 66.5mph the boat didn’t chine walk. Only when trimmed out all the way.

To stop the chine walk it I would trim it in a little until it stopped. That was about 5800 or 67MPH. I also calculated we only had 8% slip with the 25P at WOT! Could this be true?

bbladesprops 10-17-2005 02:43 PM

Re: Verado Prop Question/Help

I come up with 9% slip. Awesome!! I'm glad you liked them! I thought you would.

Yes, we can Lab the props to get the additional rpm and more speed. Also, the Labbing will help the over trim chine walking issue.

Call me when you have time.
