prop help
Hey guys:
I have a 28 Pantera with a 525efi running a 26 labbed Bravo 1. Hitting around 5000 rpm at about 68. I had a 24 B 1 and got a bit more speed but risked hitting the revlimiter. Any ideas on maybe trying a 5 blade? If so what would you recommend? |
Re: prop help
I believe the Hydro P5 is best on the 28'. Miami Boyz Racing runs a P5 and QIV props. Post your detailed performance numbers, on both props and I will make recommendation for you. Assuming that you have 1.5 gears I will run thru some slip calcs for you as well.

Julie:
It's that time of year again and I'd like a change. The 24 B1 was hitting 71 but getting to 5250 at hitting the rev lim. Althought the 26 labbed gives me great hole shot and mid-range...top end I just can't get it over 69. I think I need a 25 QIV. I don't know much about the P-5. Pantera put on the 24 B1 but the boat took too long to get on plane. There are only a few Panteras running a single 525 so not too much to compare with. Any thoughts? Thanks, Ron |
Re: prop help
Hi Ron,
Our old school straight deep V hulls require bow lift. A stock Bravo one prop will give more lift than a labbed B1 that the cupping has been removed or made smaller. My boat slowed down with a Merc "labbed" prop too... :( Now if you have a B1 labbed/altered to add bow lift, your boat will go faster. My boat is running about 2mph faster these days after BBlades modified my B1... :D If you are considering a 5 blade, the P5-X is awesome! T-Mone runs one on his 24' Pantera and my boat ran great when I tried OH-Zone's last week. Happy Boating, |

Have fun Testing with T-Mone!

Pat:
Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to buy a 25p Hydromotive QIV for now. I'm not sure what size 5 blade to get. We'll have to do the trial and error bit with the 5 blade. Just don't know where to start. Thanks. BTW...when is the season run to Claudio's? Julie: I'll be calling you with my order tomorrow. Thanks |
Re: prop help
Hi Ron,
I'd go with the X version of the QIV. It has more of a round ear vs. the cleaver style. Also, ask about the addition of a diffuser ring to keep the prop from blowing out. I know Julie said the Miami Boys run the QIV but remember that is a race boat with no cabin and it probably has 400-500lbs less in the nose. We are gathering at Claudio's this Sunday May 21st. I believe you said you are going to be out of town. If not please do join us. We'll do it again this summer for sure. |
Re: prop help
hey Ron, I look foward to seeing the results, good luck

Re: prop help
Hi Julie:
What do you think of the X version of the QIV for my boat? And about the diffuser? Thanks, Ron |
Re: prop help
Thanks Pat:
I will be back on the 24th and hoping to pop the boat in. I'm hoping I can make a decision on the prop and have it on when I get back. Sorry I can't make it on the 21st. But I'm ready to rock and roll after that. Stay in touch. JROMY is ready to blast as well and INDY may be getting a PP soon if all goes well. Should have quite a few boats this year for runs. Ron |
