Now that you have the judgement file for "judgement debtor exam (orap). Then a lien. If he is working as an employee now then do a wage garnishment.

I note that it's a Default Judgement, so he didn't even defend your action. Is he now out of business? I bought a prop from him once and he gave me a bit of run around, and then sent me the wrong pitch! And he wouldn't take it back - even when I offered to pay him an upgrade for another prop!
The reason I went with him is because there was TONS of praise for him at that time on this board. It seems he got too popular as a result of all that and his customer service and business ethics just weren't commensurate with the level of business he was getting. It's a shame, because, in fairness, from what I've seen, he does damn good prop work and his props perform (unlike him, I guess!)

On this other thread he says he is still in business today??

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...6&page=5&pp=30

I also won a Gift Certificate from Houston Prop at the Offshore only partyin Key West 2004, sent a pair of props in and it took months to get them back, the work was OK but there were many phone calls before I finally got the props back, there was always some reason/story about why it was taking so long and was told more than once they will be going out tomorrow to only call them a couple weeks later and get the same story that they would be going out tomorrow

I guess he told the members Of TBM that he was closed so they would not call him for their props or money back

I work for 150 small busienss owners, seeing the inner most workings of their business. Some days it is a bit like susage, good t eat but you do not necessarly want to see it being made.

If a guy does a superior job, without a superior price, you are taking a GIANT risk, because it cost money to do a superior job, and if they are not charging a superior price, then the company is in trouble. Take that concept to the bank, because it is gospel.

Apparently you had a good technician who was a lousy business man, he needs a JOB, not a business.

Sorry about your luck, anyone who has these experiences can not think well of small busienss owners, and small biz owners are the heart of America. I how this somehow turns out in your favor.

You been PROFILED brother.....

File a lien against everything he own and collect post judgement interest until his property sells, and I do mean everything. If you can not get your money now, get it later with interest.

WARNING to All and spread the word - cease all business dealings with Houston Propeller.

Houston Propeller is out of business. I was fortunate to get my unserviced props back but I'm out $720 I PayPal'ed to his sidekick, Kymberly Sol. I not giving up and am threatening legal remedy if I do not receive full refund.

BoatCityProp Shop is an unfortunate third-party having fallen for Darin Murphy's ruse to sell shop equipment to them. Repeat - shop equipment - not the business or its liabilities. They ended up with my props (and other's). Murphy claimed he just sent them there to polish after completing the Accelerator service which was never done.

Turns out, Darin dumped them and others on BoatCityProp with no explanation on required service nor funding. BoatCityProp doing the honorable thing returned them to me polished not really knowing what else to do - the 'Accelerator' service never performed by Darin.

According to BoatCityProp, there are many other victims. If I don't get the requested refund, I'd like to establish a resolution forum. I do not react kindly to blatant fraud and am suitably fried.

Ironically, in my googling of Houston Propeller last December, this forum resulted in my search. I'm now a OSO Platinum member. Lesson learned. Could've avoided Houston Prop in the first place. Oh well!

BTW, the reason I went with Houston is because of a glowing article in Speedboat debut mag. I need to write them next.

I grabbed a photo of Darin from his web site (http://houstonpropeller.tripod.com/) which is amazing still active and probably grabbing more suckers.

In case anyone in the Houston area can help us out.....;-)

Re: Judgement against houston propeller

Darin did some work for me about three or four years ago and I did get my prop back and was satisfied with the work. it did take longer than expected to get them back, but he explained to me that his girlfriend or wife had cancer really bad and was fighting for her life. Like I said, I did get my prop back and was satisfied.

It seems that there are alot of unsatisfied customers out there now and I saw where Darin had posted a few weeks ago that he now has cancer. :( I wonder if his girlfriend/wife beat the cancer? they might want to have their house checked out to make sure it's a safe enviroment to live in.

Good luck to everyone involved in this sad situation. I hope it all works out for all!

Re: Judgement against houston propeller

I also read he is battling cancer.

As far as his props, I have heard nothing but good things about his accelerator(or acclerator?) props. Huge raves about the performance gains.

However, I have heard several complaints about customer service and payments, especially recently. How it is related to his illness I have no idea. But, I have learned that there is always three sides to every story.

I just hope it all works out for everyone.

If that's really Darrin in the picture, he doesn't look that old. I wish him luck with his health, but it sounds like he needs to get on the up and up with his business practices and make good with any unhappy customers. Do not do business if you're sick. Get your health back, then resume business.

cavecreeker 03-29-2006 01:50 PM

Re: Judgement against houston propeller

I assumed it is his picture per the caption on his still active website <http://houstonpropeller.tripod.com/>.

Brian, Tom or Kristi at Boat City Prop can probably vouch since 'they sold him his equipment used to start his business.'

They also bought it back along with a number of unserviced props belonging to fellow victims nationwide.

Boat City was extremely professional stuck in the middle of this debacle. In fact, I entrusted them to perform the work I paid Darin to do. Of course I paid them for what turned out to be top quality lab and finish. I highly recommend their work. http://www.boatcity-okc.com/index.htm

Darin never returned calls nor money - he has stolen my $720 and many others. Illness is no safe harbor for theft in my reality.
