Herring Props

here is the delema, just bought a Fountain 42 EX, with 525's and stock XR's. I have run the stock 32 Bravo's Merc. Labbed 32's and the dealer has a set of 6 blade Herrings that I am trying to get a hold of. Has anybody seen that big of a difference from upgrading to Herrings or should I just make an offer on the labbed Merc. 32's and call it a day. Is all of the stuff I am hearing about the Herring true or will the Merc. labbed pops due the trick.

P.S. the labbed props showed a big improvement over stock. should I just be happy there??? or any other idea's???

To some degree it will depend on how the boat is set up.

What are your current performance numbers? WOT rpm and speed with the stock 32's.

you may see a couple of mph... the only way to know is to try them...also is 2 mph worth the $$$$

with the stock 32's it can't get the boat past 5000-5100 prm and around 81-82 under normal conditions. I saw 84 one time with just 2 people and real light fuel......BZ

I think you should address the slip issue you have now;

How does the boat get on plane?
Is there a rooster tail at max speed, if so how high?
How much drive trim do you need to get top speed?

I would look into what's causing so much prop slip. If this is a new boat it wouldn't be uncommon for the drives to be mounted a little high. If you have the performance sheet from Fountain it should tell you what the top speed and rpm was before it left the factory. Take a couple mph off whatever that sheet says and then you have a realistic goal to shoot for.

You may benefit from the 6 blade props on your boat given the slip you have now.

It was really great talking to you today. With a little work, patience and creativity we should be able to find a little more in her! I am sure of it!
Stay in touch and call me after you finish testing.
