Prop selection help
I have recently purchased a 1988 Baja 240 with a refreshed (but stock :( ) 502. The prop on the boat is a 3 blade quicksilver that is in rough shape. I will be purchasing a prop to replace it but not sure what prop would be best. I have tried a 4 blade 14 x 22p Apollo, didn’t like the way it performed. In the past I have installed a hydromotive 4 blade on a 25 outlaw and had great luck with it. Not sure if it would be as good on this boat. Any help would be greatly appreciated :drink: .
Thanks, Speed |
Re: Prop selection help
Those Apollo props are what they are. A cheap foreign made prop for people who want a stainless steel prop and don't care about performance or quality.
The Quad IV prop is an option and has some advantages over most of the 3 blade props on your boat. It makes for a good overall prop that gets on plane well and handles well in various water conditions. It may not be the fastest prop on the boat under ideal conditions but in real world water conditions makes for a good prop on your boat. Matt |
Re: Prop selection help
Hi Matt
Thanks for the information :drink: . The dealer that let me try the Apollo is also a Mercury dealer and has a Rev-4 prop. How would you compare the Rev-4 to the Hydromotive Quad IV. I do feel obligated to the dealer that let me try the Apollo (with no money down :D ). At the same time I’m looking to purchase the best prop for the boat. Thanks, Speed |
Re: Prop selection help
Try the rev 4. It should work well on your boat.
