Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
I was planning to put a labbed 24" Bravo-1 4-blade on my Baja 232 (454 Mag MPI w B1) which is presently running a stock 23" Mirage/PLUS 3-blade prop. A cleaner holeshot, less turning cavitation and mid-range throttle control are key objectives, not so much top end.
It was suggested by a knowledgable dealer to consider a stock 23" Revolution-4 prop (or stock 22" Bravo-1) in lieu of the labbed 24" Bravo-1 due to possible excess slippage of the labbed prop. Anyone have any experience with this type of situation? |
Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
Go with the Rev 4 23 pitch. You will be very happy.

Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
We set these up daily with REV 4's. Give us a call and we'll discuss some test REV 4 props for you to try.

Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
I really like the Rev 4 BBlades just sent me for my boat, I don't have any Bravo experience so I really cant compare them though.

Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
We have the 23 pitch 4 blade Revolutions on our boat and we can't say enough to how well the boat responds to these props.
We tried 12 to 15 sets of props on our 1988 31 ft Stinger. This was the only prop to get the bow up and air under the boat. We're going to lab them this winter as we know we'll see some slight improvement with our speed and RPM's. We picked up several RPM's and increased our speed by 2-3MPH. |
Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
I'm pretty happy with the labbed 28p Bravo 1 that BBlades did for me, but I wonder how my boat would run with a Rev 4?
The Rev 4 seems to push old school straight V bottom boats vary well. What is the max pitch offered these days? I run a 26p or labbed 28p Bravo 1; is there a comparable Rev 4? |
Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
I'm not positive but I believe the largest pitch offered is a 23". Steve

I think I'd need a 27p Rev 4... |

Anyone have any experience with this type of situation? A 4 BLADE WILL SLIP LESS THENE 3 BLADE SO A 224B IS A GOOD START LABBED PROPS ARE GOOD BUT THERE ARE NOT MENT TO USE EVERY DAY THERE THINED OUT AND THEY GET WEEK I RIP A EAR OFF OF ONE AND I DIN NOT HIT ANYTHING IT JUST GOT WEEK AND BROKE |
Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
25 is the largest Rev 4 made. I am still lobbying for 27's but with all the other things going on right now, my wishes are falling on deaf ears. I know we would have many applications they would work on.
I should of pushed harder when I still worked there. |

How does the Turbo Fusion 4 compare to the Merc Rev 4? The Turbo comes in larger pitch sizes. |
Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
Just an FYI:
Got a chance to test a 23" Rev-4 on my Baja 232 this week. Although I have tested with both a 23" Mirage/PLUS and a 22" Bravo/1 reaching a max speed of 66-67mph, both running as smooth as silk in 1' wind chop. The Rev-4 was quite different. Running offshore in 2' seas, the Rev-4 performed pretty well but seemed a bit "loose" all morning, not terrible, but not a solid, hooked-up feel like the Bravo/1. When I made my first high-speed pass behind the breakwater, at about 60mph I began to experience a somewhat violent chine walk which seemed to intensify as the speed increased. It became a bit scary so I throttled back at about 64mph and didn't loose the chine walk until I slowed to about 40-45mph. I have never experienced chine walking before on this boat and the only thing which was different was the new Rev-4 prop I was testing. I am assuming this prop has some design characteristics which may have been the cause? |

can you take both props with you and test one and go back test the other the same day.

Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
Pat,
We have seen the Fusion 4 run similar to the Rev 4. The Rev 4 is typically 1-2 mph faster. However, the F4 comes in pitches to 32! And, the higher pitches, are higher in rake angles. |
Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
pat's got it...
at least from my experience....my revo4's work exceptionally well on my "old school" 87 sutphen rumrunner, twin 350mags 42mph at 3000rpm, 54@3800, tabs down a bit past parallel, drives out just a bit above parallel..the mid range handling and cruise are awesome... c |
Re: Bravo-1 vs. Revolution-4 (Labbed vs. Stock)
FYI ..... I'm interested in selling my 23p Rev-4.
Bought new-in-the-box for testing, it's a 23" pitch RH 4-blade Mercury SS propeller (48-857030-A46) which has been used for less than an hour and is in absolutely MINT condition with no dings, scratches or nicks. $275 PM if interested. |
