24P vs. 26P Bravo

We are currently running a 23P Mirage Plus behind a stock 454MAGEFI pushing a 2000 Checkmate 259 Convincor to 65mph (gps) at 5100 rpms. We are going to add 90 HP (peak hp between 5100-5300rpm) and looking for suggestions for a new prop. Would a Bravo 4 blade 24 or 26 pitch prop work better for this application? Any other suggestions would be appreciated also.

RUNNING THE 26B1 WOULD BE LIKE RUNNING THE 25P M+
SEEMS LIKE THE B1'S RUN A PITCH SMALLER THAN THEY ARE LABELED

Do you think we can spin a B1 26 between 5100-5300 rpms with 475 propshaft HP?

I DON;T THINK SO BUT I AM NO EXPERT. BBLADES OR THROTTLE UP COULD PROB ANSWER THAT.

its been said before that the Bravo props have somewhat of a variable pitch to them and the pitch changes from hub to the tip of the prop. and merc uses the larger of the numbers i believe.

back to RJBBC, id run the prop you have at first....get a baseline number, then try a 24, i would think that a 26 would be a little too much.

let me know if you find a 26 to try, im looking for one for my boat. i have a 22 B1, but not a 24 anymore.

byuboy, because of the extra blade the comparison goes the other way i believe........a 23 M+ compares in RPM range to a 22 B1, and so on....

anyone correct me if im wrong!!

my check likes the four blades and so do i, better stability....but the 3s are a little faster.

On my boat a 25p Mirage plus is comparable to a 26p Bravo 1.
The Bravo 1 spins about 100rpm less.
I would test with the prop you have first before buying another.

Re: 24P vs. 26P Bravo

Each boat is different and some people prefer the 4bl handling to the 3bl speed.

As a general rule, use the smaller Bravo 1 pitch to equal the rpm of the larger pitch Mirage Plus. The additional diameter and blade area make the difference even though the actual pitch of the B1 is less than marked.
