Cigarette Cafe props

Recently upgraded 540 Bulldogs in 1994, Cig Cafe with 1.50 Bravos. Went with CMI sweepers, Dart Pro-1 aluminum heads, roller cams, and Crane ignition boxes. Running Bravo 1 four blades, 26 pitch labbed by John Janaky. Gained 500 rpm and tachs read 5500 rpm. Full fuel tanks and 5 people GPS reads 76.2 mph. One person and 3/4 tanks 78.2 mph. Will labbed 28's produce better performance or should I be happy with where I am at?

That will depend on where your peak torque and HP are at. I would think with what you've described as far as the engines that you are about right where you should be.

WOT on the Bulldogs was 5200rpms and I would think your mods gave some more hp in the higher rpms. I don't think that you would want to spin it much less than where you are. You could be making enough torque though that you could spin a bigger prop. Only testing will tell without a dyno sheet and then testing might still be needed.

I agree with Griff. Can you give us some specifics on the motors, such as the RPM at which the peak torque and HP are produced, please. I have calculated your slip at 12% which is in the normal range. So key is hitting your peak HP at this point.

The 540's were not dynoed. I guess the only true way to tell will be to try some 28 pitch props???

Depending on the recipe you have on the 26's, Labbed 28's may produce higher top end and cruise speeds. I agree with everyone else, a dyno sheet would help. The Bulldogs actually ran great all the way to 5400 rpm. This being said and knowing what those props most likely look like, I believe the 28's would help you to achieve bigger numbers.

We have test 28 box stockers to get a baseline if you wish to try them.
