Labbed 28 Maximus Repair?
 

I have a 39 FT Nortech V with 525's and labbed 28 Maximus' props. The boat has about 65 hours on it and it seem to have lost a little speed and is much harder to get on a plane lately. Is this common with these propellers? Can something be done to fix them? Any info would help! Thanks.

All depends on who labbed them to begin with. If they were done by mercury you can send them back and have them brought back to the original lab specs. They keep a data base for 5 years and will be able to tell by the S/N what was originally done. I have sent my props back to them for the last 5 years.

When you say you have a hard time getting on plane what is the problem? 'Are the motors lugging or are the props ventilating (props slip) when getting on plane?

What kind of speed loss have you seen?
What is the WOT rpm now compared to when the boat was new?
What is the current top speed and rpm?

There are many variables that effect the props. One is how much time you spend running at high power levels. The blades will tend to bend forward from the thrust. This reduced the rake and in some cases can decrease top end. I don't know if that is necessarily a problem with your boat, however.

Blades can get what we call "laid back" over many hours of use but, I'm talking MANY hours. The geometry changes from all the pressures the metal is under.

Mercury typically keeps the records for 6 years if you don't do any more work with them. Once you do some type of propeller work, the clock is reset and you have another 6 years. We used to clean out the files on a annual basis around this time of the year. There is always computer records, but the minor nuances of the specific job are hand written.

BBLADES does the same thing, we keep records for many moons. This way we can see where we came from, where we are and where we can go next if needed.

If the props are the culprit in your performance issues and they were Labbed by BBLADES or Merc, we will be able to determine the change in the propeller. Mercury has changed there Lab process on this propeller about 3 times from what I originally deemed the template in Feb. 2004 (after Dennis C. started the process). It is now back to the original version.
