382 Fastech-lab props?
 

Boat is equipped with 575 sci's with a high X dimension and I'm spinning Hydromotive P5's. I'm thinking about having the props labbed finished. I think I'll pick up about 2 mph, any thoughts? Also, what would be a good price?

I am an Ex Formyla owner. I have a pair of labbed 28 Maxums for sale, that should work just fine if you are interested.

Might want to contact Vic Spellberg @ Formula. They had a Poker Run boat with 575's and did a lot of work with labbing. He might be able to save you a lot of time and money.

This could possibly be that very same boat. Vic used the boat in 2004 for poker runs. I was told they did a lot of testing with various props and the hydromotives seemed to work the best. The props on the boat are not labbed. Just curious if there would be any decent performance improvement and would it be worth the dollars.

I have done alot of prop testing with my 382 and have found box stock bravo's and hydromotive p5x work the best.
I have tried maximus un-labbed and was impressed with anything under 3500 rpm, as the rpm went up the old reliable bravo prop out performed them.
The labbed bravo really hurts the low and mid range, and forget about the big water, you can't get them to hook up until 50 mph, if you get caught in the big water you would be better off idling home.
I am interested in Throttle up's cnc'd props. Possibly they can build a prop with the advantages of a stock prop with the un-matched precision of a cnc mill.
Several racers on oso are very happy with the cnc'd props, but they only need the props to work good off the turns and at full rpm. With the pleasure boats we are also expecting a good low and mid range.
I my opinion if you took any of the prop designs out there and made a cnc version vs as-cast you would see gains just from the precision alone. I think you should buy a set and if they work will I buy a set also.

Is this equipped with Stellings boxes? If so, what is the distance from the notch to the bottom of the box? Have my boxes off and thought about raising them 1" on re-install.

Yes, it does have the boxes. I'm not sure as to the distance from the notch to the bottom of the box.

Hello,

From 1998 till 2003 i took all the orders from the purchasing department at Thunderbird Products (Formula) for every propeller that went on Fas - Tech hulls. Every one was either a Lab Finished or Box Stock Bravo 1 propeller. The reason was they worked the best. Once the 5 blade props came out, mid range speeds could be enhanced but the top end didn't typically increase on most situations.

Labbing your existing propellers is a viable option. We have found however, the P5X propellers do not respond as well to the Lab procedure as the Maximus propellers do.

There are many Lab Finished recipes. We can not concider the standard Merc racing recipe as the only option. labbing a Maximus or Bravo 1 to the specific application is the best option! Test box stock. Talk to the best propeller people and build custom to the boat we are working on!
