Prop for a 15' Whaler

A friend of mine is reriging a 1978 15' Boston Whaler with a 1999 70HP Johnson.
Not looking for top end speed as we have other boats for that.
He will be pulling skiers, tubes, and going fishing.
Looking for pulling power and the most stable ride.
How about a 4 blade aluminum?
What pitch to try?
Thanks,

Hey Pat,

Merc doesn't have a 4 blade for that motor. have to get to the V4's for the hub changes. Mich wheel has 4 blades in aluminum for the small and big gear cases. The large case is what you need, I think. They have 10 and 12 pitch. Probably too small. How about a 3 blade stainless? Good durability and better performance out of the whole than a aluminum.

Hi Brett,

I did find a 4 blade aluminum prop. What do you think?

Yes, Gregg will likely buy a stainless performance prop eventually, but his wife and kids are going to run this boat too.

Thanks,

Yeah, if you want unique stuff, or you can't find it anywhere else, Solas or Mi wheel are go to's.

The problem is the QC on those props isn't always the best. I think a Silverado 3 bl stainless from Merc will perform better on the top and as well down low. I think the prop you are talking about is very reasonably priced so that trying it would be cost prohibitive. If he likes it, great! Otherwise we can try some stainless.

Take care

Pat,

Try a Stiletto Bay Pro I four blade stainless steel propeller. 13-1/4" diameter and pitches from 13" to 19" are available.

Hey Brett,
I received two used props I bought last week.
The M+ is in great shape so I'll try that as is before sending it to you for tweaking.
The Mach I received is a bit rough so I'm not sure if I should run it as is. Do you have the dies to bring that prop back to its stock shape? It is a ø14.5 x 28p round ear stern driver.

I have a 97 15 BW with a 13 pitch 3 blade (aluminum I believe) that is turned by a Yamaha 60 HP 4S. Boat runs 41 MPH GPS but chine walks really bad above 39-40. Out of the hole is fair.
